Barrel Band problems

On my Spanish Mauser and on my Mosin 1891/30, after firing about.....20 to 40 rounds or so (respectively), the rear barrel band and top handguard start to "skip" foreward, off their spring-loaded retainers, etc, resulting in my having to facilitate their rearword motion by some interesting antics (rifles unloaded, of course)--which are unpleasant with hot guns. Anyone else experience this problem, or am I lucky, or is there a way to fix it, or.....?

Are they all the past the retaining springs to start with?
Have they been bent out of shape?
Are the springs themselves damaged?

Are the springs themselves damaged?Nope. Nope. And.....nope, to my knowledge. Maybe just a bit old (can we say, original? :o ).

I'll Assume you meant yep (bands past the springs to begin with) nope and nope.

Lots of knowledgable guys.
The only thing I can think of is that the retainers are not high enough to keep the bands, or the back sides are rounded off (assuming the bands are not out of shape).

I just had this exact problem for the first time today! I've probably shot 800 rounds through it already with no problems, but today after 10 shots the bands, along with the handguard, slipped forward. Moved it back in place, after 10 more rounds it slipped again.
I'm still fairly new to firearms, so could someone tell me if this is something I can fix myself, or is it serious enough to have a gunsmith look at it? :o

Wow. At least I know other people are having the same issue pop up.

The only variable I can think of is that I just switched from Czech silver-tip to Bulgarian light-ball surplus this past week... although I don't know why that would make a difference. Coincidence?
What ammo are you guys firing when the problem occurs?
I'm gonna talk to the guys at my local gun store and see if I can get an answer... I'll let you know what I found out.
