Grip Screw Help!

I'm pretty embarrassed to have to post this, but here goes...

I was changing the grips on my FN Hi Power. The old grips would come a little loose after firing, so I wanted to make sure these were good and tight. I was trying for that extra 1/100th of a turn and the screw head snapped off. The rest of the screw is still in place and it's holding the grip on (not sure how.)

So, I was wondering if you folks had any suggestions before I take her to a gunsmith.

(And do you have any recommendations for a 'smith in SW Ohio, preferably around Dayton?)

Thanks.

I would suggest tapping the grip from the other side and see if you can't tap it off. Take the grip off the other side and use the handle of a screwdriver to tap the back side of the stuck grip. If you can remove it, you should be able to grab the shank of the screw with pliers and unscrew it.

THANKS HOG!

I'm a moron and you're a genius. Worked like a charm. Now all I need is a new grip screw and I'm in business!

Things like that happen to everybody. Sometimes you get frustrated and you can't see the solution. That's why this forum is so great. Everyone screws up, so don't take it personally.

MeanStreaker, if I may, I think some blue locktite would serve you quite well at this point. It's great stuff for screws that keep coming loose.

what you might try also, instead of putting back the flat head screws get some tork head screws, they are a lot easier to get in and out without stripping. sj
