Shot my first IPSC match

I have been shooting IDPA for several years now and have always wanted to get to an IPSC match, but with shooting IDPA 3 times a month and action rifle (SFDCC) once a month my shooting plate is pretty full.

The local IPSC club has a Single Stack match a couple of weeks ago. It was damn hot, but the stages were alot of fun. I wasn't terribly thrilled with the "try to trick the shooter" type stages but I can understand their merit, and unfortunately people work them into IDPA as well.

Overall I had a good time and enjoyed the match. I like the fact that IPSC appears to be pushing this single-stack class and it's something that almost all IDPA CDP shooters will already have the gear for.

I will certainly be back, and am even considering forgoing one of the IDPA matches I shoot a month and replacing it with IPSC.

I have certainly come to the conclusion that it's not about one being better than the other, but simply that they are different.

What I like most about IPSC when compared to IDPA is the ability to set up a stage and then have the shooters figure it out on their own. "Shoot them as you see them". And there may be more than 2 good ways to get that done. Setting a 'trap' for the shooter to get a little off plan and have to work out the solution on the fly is part of the game, work it out before you shoot or pay the consequences.

Both are fun, that is for sure!!

GOOD IDPA stages are also set up with the "shoot 'em as you see 'em" plan as well. Convoluted correographed stages are the bane of IDPA. I run a monthly practical rifle match and I try to do the same thing. At most I like to have a "move from here to there" walkthrough.
