What animal eats ground hornet nests?

I've been finding fist-sized holes from time to time where an animal has
dug out a ground hornet's nest and eaten the larvae out of it.
I live in the Great Lakes area --what animal is doing this so I can make
sure it remains protected on my property?
Thanks!

My wife had just seen a skunk in the same field, too.
I would have left *that* animal alone anyways :uhoh:

Skunks, bears, raccons, badgers, and reptiles regularly prey on yellow jacket nests

If you didn't live so far away, I'd say my dog. He loves any kind of bug he can get his jaws on, even flying ones. Got stung a few times but that doesn't seem deter his cravings.

One year I witnessed skunks in our yard doing it several times. Useful little stinkers.

Armadillos eat the heck out of the larvae of ground-nesting wasps of any kind down here. They will dig up the whole nest and have a party. :D Unfortunately, they will also dig up the wife's flower garden to get at the grubs. :banghead:
