Ruger #1

Since I got my Ruger #1 I noticed it strings shots. In investigating this I have read about several methods to float the barrel. I would like to try the simplest approach first and put a shim between the hanger and the forend. How diificult is this to do? Bedding the stock is out of my league but I think I can put a shim in. Someone else mentioned putting a #36 O-ring at the end of the forend screw. Which would work better the shim or the O-ring?

Any decent hardware store will have O rings for a dime or so. Aluminum drink cans are a great source of shim material. So, for about ten cents, and a little of your time, you can find out which works best for your gun.
;)
Have fun.
