Armed Robber Picks The Wrong Pawn Shop To Hold Up
(KUTV) MIDVALE A man attempting to rob City Pawn decided that wasn't such a good idea when he discovered the clerk at the shop happened to be putting away a gun at the time.

Police say a Hispanic man went into the shop located at 7214 South 900 East in Midvale just after it opened Tuesday morning. They say he milled around the back of the store for a while and then went up to the counter and pointed a gun at the clerk.

But unfortunately for him, his timing was a little off.

“The store clerk had a weapon in his hand that he was putting out on display and drew it at the same time,” said Sgt. Ken Jarvis, Midvale Police.

Police say the suspect then ran out the door and jumped into a car with two other men.

Police are now looking for a red Mitsubishi Eclipse with partial plate number 771.

I'm not sure if I'd want to point a presumably unloaded weapon at someone who is already armed.

Objective is to survive, to make it home at the end of the day.

Yep! Bluffing works in poker, and sometimes in real life as well ;)

The story has been updated, along with the video, including surveillance footage ( http://www.kutv.com/video/?id=18383@kutv.dayport.com ). Apparently it was three guys. it's interesting to see the reaction of the would-be robbers. Almost makes one think they had an airsoft or pellet gun and realized they were in over their heads. Lucky guy. Dumb kids.

Good on him for the quick reaction though, unloaded or not. Still don't think I would have done it, I'm not much of a bluffer. Or am I... ;)

Sorry, I started a duplicate, I couldn't see this one.

Oh the film is beautiful.

As far as pointing an empty gun, while obviously poor tactics, A: It worked, and B:, These guys had the cojones or desperation or whatever to walk into a place they KNEW was full of guns, try to rob it, and hope that they wouldn't get killed.

The clerk had a gun in his hand. He had to choose, "Do I drop it, and reach for the loaded gun under the counter, or do I point, grit my teeth, and hope for the best?" I THINK, if he had hesitated, and grabbed the unloaded gun, and lost the surprise element, the robber would not have reacted the way he did, and someone would have gotten killed. THE ROBBER ALSO HAD THE DROP ON HIM. He had his gun out and cocked. The only thing that prevented him from firing first was being surprised.

I'm sure they will be returning to their jobs at Cape Canaveral as soon as they change their shorts.

Quick thinking, and from the store's video, the right action. Any extra movement other than "woops, here's a gun pointing back at you" would've gotten him shot. I hope he carries on his hip from now on. :)

I saw the video on TV last night. You can see the tag dangling off the trigger guard, but the would-be robbers probably didn't notice that detail...

The guy came in with a machete and got shot for his troubles.
Mentioned something about wanting to commit suicide.:uhoh:

He got shot by the owners son. Maybe a "mod" can find it???
It was on TFL numerous weeks ago.

If the clerk was "putting the gun on display", why was it loaded?

Who said it was loaded? It's called a "bluff." Took cajonies to pull it off, but it worked.
