Guns are dangerous, promote crime and deaths, and should be banned for the good of society. (7 votes, 16%)

If you look at the follow up postings though, it appears that the majority are acting in true liberal fashion and bitching because there aren't enough shades of gray in between right and wrong for them to choose from.

Still, it shows that given a choice, a supermajority fall on the side of choosing liberty over some vague sense of "safety".

I wonder if those that are "pro" are "pro" for everyone or just themselves.

BS poll, put that on the DU main page and see the real results. There's a total of 36 votes pro, and 7 anti. Those 36 are probably the accounts of people from here going over there to evangelize the RKBA.

agreed, most of the posters in the "guingeon" are AR15.com trolls. the DU mods know this which is why gun threads in GD are sent there toute de suite. shame really it stiffles meaningfull discussion there.

Here's another one:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1689245

Do you own or plan to buy a gun? If you can, please eleborate [sic] on why (self-defense? What else is there?).

Poll result (608 votes)
Yes (311 votes, 51%)
No, but I plan to buy one (56 votes, 9%)
No (241 votes, 40%)

Not a well balanced bunch on those DU polls, for the most part.

If you read the follow-up comments, you'll find the main reason the frustrated librarians, hippies and government workers that inhabit the place want to buy a gun is to protect themselves from attacks by rampaging "Fundies" and the Bush "Storm Troopers" that will be coming to get them in '08 when Bush delcares martial law, refuses to leave the Presidency and declares himself dictator for life.

They believe this stuff.

Besides the party at a national level is still exceedingly anti gun owner. Even in the "Gungeon" at DU there is a regular string of "gun owners are all racist rednecks" postings.

Remember the only vote that Kerry and Edwards flew back from the campaign trail to Washington to cast? Renewal of the AWB.

Well, at least the abuses of civil liberties in the country has done something good.

Lots of people claim they're pro-gun. No one wants to look like an authoritarian jerk. Well, almost no one.

Most Republicans claim to be pro-gun too, but if you start talking specifics with them, they're liable to support everything from background checks to the AWB.

Well, at least the abuses of civil liberties in the country has done something good.
but if you read what people are actually saying in the thread, you'll see that "pro-gun" doesn't mean nearly the same thing to them as it does to us.

There is more than one reply in that thread where the poster said something along the lines of "I'm pro-gun, but there need to be stricter laws/licensing/more regulation/etc." I don't know if you guys realize this, but that's the Brady bunch's position too. A lot of dems see any position short of total prohibition as being "pro-gun." These are the same people who said that Kerry isn't an anti.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but "pro-gun" is like "assault weapons." People talk about it as if it has some universal meaning, when it clearly doesn't.

Pro-gun to them means people like john kerry. They'll pick up a gun when it suits their purpose but heaven forbid anyone else own one. Sarah Brady is pro-gun in the sense that she purchased a hunting rifle for her son's birthday, but she'll push you in front of a train sooner than let you have the same right.

They can answer polls until they are blue in the face but as long as the feinsteins, schumers, kennedys, kerrys, boxers, mccarthys, lautenbergs, and obamas keep getting re-elected and they keep cozying up to sarah brady they can forget trying to dupe anyone that is half informed.

Well that sounds like a fine reason to own guns to me. People here on this very forum predicted Clinton would declare martial law and refuse to leave office as well. Of course, when Republicans say that about a Democrat, its totally rational.

Well the 'rats do have the only president that ever served more than the traditional 2 terms...

... and it happens to be the same president that brought us income confiscation/redistribution schemes, US concentration camps, the National Firearms Act and a whole slew of other despicable measures. All in the name of the common good. :barf:

Not surprising. The Dem leaders are anti-gun because there is a very small but passionate anti-gun faction within the party. The rest of the party is neutral on the issue. And there are some more intelligent people in the party who know that that one issue, all by itself, has kept them out of the white house and Congress for the past few years.

Then that means they understand why we have gun rights. That type of scenario could happen someday. If we're all armed it makes it hard for any group over in DC to "lay down the law" in the rest of country.

Did not the Soviet heroes of DU use guns? The guns are for govt only! Ja! Big trenches to bury those who expressed free speech, but not in the PC manner! I'll be voting Democrat when they oppose Marxism. Which means not any time soon.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I've said this about 100x in the past. Great reminder for those gun owners who are so overwhelmingly disgusted with the GOP to remember just what the alternative is like.

These freedom hating anti-American socialist extremists FLEW back to DC on their primary day! A day that they should be out doing last minute campaigning...to vote on the AWB renewal. They missed dozens of votes on other important issues that Democrats whine and cry about, but for gun control? FLY IMMEDIATELY TO DC ON PRIMARY DAY TO CAST A VOTE.

Priorities eh?

I've said it, the moment the Democrats gain power - one of the very first things they'll go for is gun control. They don't care about political consequences, they'll take any hit necessary to chip away at the 2nd Amendment.

One can only hope that more Dems will become Pro-RKBA. I'd be really dreaming to think that they would quit flying socialist values under the flag of liberty, but it sure would be nice.

The Dems need to get this one straight or it will continue to kill their party.

Plus genuinely pro-2A Dems will flush RINOs out in a hurry. Plenty of Repubs only pay lip service to RKBA.

The Dems are a world worse than the Repubs on this issue. My point is that the leaders are a lot more extreme (on this issue) than rank-and-file Dems, perhaps like Repub leaders are more hardcore on some issues than mainstream Repubs. I'm a single-issue voter, which means that there's only one party I can vote for unfortunately. I wish I could be single-issue AND have a choice. In some areas, where 90% of the people are solidly pro-RKBA, both parties run pro-RKBA candidates, but that's only true in a few states. Alas not mine.

"The Dems are a world worse than the Repubs on this issue. My point is that the leaders are a lot more extreme (on this issue) than rank-and-file Dems..."

It's a lot more than just gun control. The Democrat party leadership is consistently responding to a small, vocal minority on other issues as well.

That survey they published earlier this week, showed that over 66% of Americans favor some limitations on abortion. Has anyone here ever seen a national level Democrat speak in favor of limitations of any kind?

If they did, they'd be out of the party faster than Lieberman, with the NOW and NARAL people leading the parade of torches.

What did all those innocent electrons do to the DU posters anyways?

That poll has about as much value as the words of NY Senator Chuck Schumer - "I'm a strong supporter of the Second Amendment"...

This is all just part of their strategy to appear non threatening to the fence sitting gun owners. Remember John Kerry's website touted his "strong second amendment support" or at least his blog did. More correctly, his staff who were actually the ones posting on the blog.

Somebody once said that if you repeat a lie often enough, it will eventually become accepted as the truth.

I wouldn't put much faith in this poll or in the replies of the DUers.

It seems obvious that meldroc is mole or a sock. I've met several recovered liberals but not even one "former Republican" who became liberal. Not even one former conservative who became liberal, for that matter. :D

Also, it's posted in the Gun Forum where it will be much more protected than it would be in GD.

This poster is just building up posts and trust for mole purposes.

As I lurk on DU, sometimes trying to preach the "gospel of the right to bear arms in self defense and defense of loved ones," I see polls like this and get hope for the future of the Second Amendment.

Then....I stop and think. If **I** am a "mole" then how many of the other pro-2Aers on there are moles?

Smurfslayer, your post makes me think...maybe us 2A trolls do more harm than good? As in, when it suits them, people can say "hey, lookie here - 84% of Democrats support RKBA!!!" :what:

Nice. So they got a couple of rabid gungrabbing socialist dolts moderating the Guns forum over there?

That in itself tells you exactly what demorats really think.

No thanks, I'll see 29 Bushes in the whitehouse and 9 Republican appointed SCOTUS justices and still not ever vote for the party of gun grabbing, drunken murderers, and robert kkk byrd.

Democrat Underground's mission is not meaningful discussion. It is advancement of socialism in this nation.

Benchley is a raving lunatic, it wouldn't shock me if he was banned...though several members were complaining that they don't touch him he walks the party line....

Iverglas is a pain in the rear most of the time, but at least makes an attempt to be civil.

But neither are mods.

And as pg1957 said, there is no "meaningful discussion" as it states in the rules...support all Democrats 24/7 or get shown the door! :uhoh:

DU is the short bus of the internet.

Its also the lunatic moonbat fringe of liberalism. They state it flat out in their rules: Who We Are: Democratic Underground is an online community for Democrats and other progressives. Members are expected to be generally supportive of progressive ideals, and to support Democratic candidates for political office. Democratic Underground is not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and comments posted here are not representative of the Democratic Party or its candidates.

You can and will be banned over there for being a conservative or posting anything contrary to their way of thinking. So much for open-minded progressivism. I've never seen a bigger bunch of fascists anywhere.

The above comment about iverglass had me rolling on the floor. You just haven't read enough of her stuff. She is a 100% whacko, moonbat, America hating, gun hating CANADIAN!!!! That's right she's a member of the frozen north trying to bring her version of utopia to a town near you.

But enough about them rascals.:p
