Witness owner question....

Has any Witness owners performed their own conversions with the "kit" available through EAA?

I'm considering the purchase of a Witness (steel frame) in 45 a.c.p. and the slide conversion for 10mm. :) EAA offers a 6" match barrel in 10mm for the 45 a.c.p. steel frame and I'd like to know if this is something that I can do myself or is there machining envolved that would require a gunsmith's skills.

I'm going to send an e-mail to EAA too and ask the same question.

Your opinions and experience is appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

I haven't actually done it, but I do own 2 Witnesses. My understanding is they go on and off just like your normal slide assembly. I would give EAA a call just to make absolutely sure, their custoemr service has gotten much better lately. I called a couple of days ago to order three mags for my Match model and the lady on the phone was very friendly and helpful.

I had a .45 Sport Long Slide and picked up a 10mm slide from another shooter. Worked perfectly. Very accurate.

The problem, in my case, was finding mags that would work well -- as some of the older .45s seem to have tighter mag openings in the grip, and a lot of the 10mm mags from EAA are spotty quality. Ended up doing a lot of grinding on some 15-round 10mm and then repainting them. Worked fine, but didn't look "factory."
