My first 600 at the local league where it is called by the ranger officer Jerry Keifer at the local cop training school.

Shot with my new S&W 41

179-3x
194-4x
186--3x

Ended up doing better in "real life" than on the practice range!

And man, is rapid faster than what I thought it was.

Thanks everyone (esp. bdutton) with shooting suggestions.

have a great day

Congratulations. There's no .22 better than a 41 with ammo it likes. None worse with ammo it doesn't like. Mine will shoot and cycle with just two brands. Put a set of target grips on it. Herrett's, I think. I've had it for eons.
Rapid fire gets less daunting with experience. Eventually you'll be finished just as the time is up. Concentrate on the sight picture for now. The speed will come with practice. League shooting is great fun though isn't it?

Thanks Sunray.

Funny you should mention the ammo. Brainchild that I am, I used up all the Federal Champion that the 41 likes this weekend (CCI Blazer that I had does not eject but seems to be really accurate for me, (wouldn't you know it)). Took a chance with the Federal Target ammo for the first time, racing to Dick's Sporting Goods between work and League, and things worked out okay. phew.

Thunderbolt is terrible as it doesn't fire half the time, and Remington Golden looks like a shotgun pattern, but I am still new so it could be me.

League was a bit daunting. Ended up ~loading~ during the first 5-String of the first Timed Fire; totally wasn't ready because I didn't know what I was supposed to do, or when I could touch the pistol or not! ha ha. Still fired off my 5 shots but I was kind of rolling my eyes at myself, "20 seconds, I have 20 seconds...!!"

I had been there once before when I got my first pistol back in February, but for what ever reason felt clueless today, nonetheless.

It was sweet though. I may have the bug.

have a great day

I do shoot with an Ultra-Dot, although I saw many not shooting with the dot on their .22s or 38s, only on their 45s.

Well done caveman!

That score is expert (90 per target) category and very nearly Master (95 per target)! Keep up the good work.

I just noticed the second post... avoid high velocity ammo. It may damage your gun over time.

Good ammo to try:

Wolf
jagd
CCI Standard
Eley Sport
PMC Score master (if you can find it)
RWS
Aguilla

If standard velocity ammo fails to eject or pick up the next round in the 41 you may want to replace the recoil spring with a lighter one.

Thanks!

Never really looked at the velocity part of things before. Glad to see that the Federal Target that did well yesteday afternoon is standard.

have a great day,
