the purpose of those mods? What type of ammo do you use before and after you upgrade your recoil spring?:barf::fire: :neener:

Too many to list!
But most of the ones I've had done usually have something to do with the trigger pull and the sights. Purpose would be for better accuracy with factory ammo and reloads :)

Not many mods at all. (And all my guns are my favorites)
New grips on my Smith M37, with the old ones, the trigger guard banged my finger badly. Now it is fun to use!
Rubber grip on my 1911, I'm waiting to get really nice wood ones, then they will go on. Rubber feels good on it, but it doesn't look quite right. And a new recoil spring because the original one was anemic.
Glock plug on my G22 'cause I can.
A stock change on my SKS and Mosin Nagant.
And I think that's it.

Para Ordnance P14.45:
Trigger work, Hogue Grip, Replaced mag catch with steel, stoned factory sights to remove sharp edges.
Kimber Ultra Carry CDP:
Nothing.
Springfield Champion:
Ivory grips, polished trigger.

Browning Mk III 9mm Deactivate magazine disconnect, add Wolff 18.5 lb spring & BufferTech buffer, lightly stone slide stop, add Spegel grips, polish feed ramp. Easy stuff, all done by myself.
Glock 26Add 3.5# Glock connector, polish metal internals, add "The Plug." All done by self.
These are usually my "carry" guns, and so as long as they work 100%, I have no desire to overdo the "custom" work.
I've got other guns with varying levels of "custom" work, but the most technically challenging thing I've done personally is glass bed a couple of rifles and fit a recoil pad to a shotgun.
I'm big on gun fit, reliability with ammo--regardless of platform.
That said my favorite gun(s) fit , that's why I stick with the platform, the 1911.
Actually I've only made sure the trigger was crisp...mine run around 4#. Skateboard tape and that's about it.
I do check mags, and ammo. All mine run with ammo I prefer. Actually they run anything, and any mag, but I check to make sure. I prefer the Wilson mags. I do test these, I may have had a throat job on one a long time ago--but that was for 'flying ashtrays" at the time.
I do have a P-11...trigger was tweaked, I added mag extensions to all my mags and that was it. All ammo and mags tested for reliability.
BHP's I do have the mag disconnect -disconnected, and the above trigger/ammo/mag/skateboard stuff done.
Once I adjust sights, I don't mess with them. All my sights are stock...I don't want night sights.
Pretty much stock. I know....boring, but they work.

The only mods I have done are to my Glocks. Lose the stock plastic sights and install the minus connector. Makes it shoot better!! Oh, I had a .357 snub ported for obvious reasons once!! :D

My Beretta ended up being a prototype and needed to have the hammer, grip screws (too long) and mag release to be updated to the production parts.
I had a trigger job, new sights (Trijicon front, Novak rear) and a stainless guide rod installed by Ernest Langdon, because Nina deserves only the best.
Oh yeah, almost forgot :o carbon fiber grips.

I think I'm gonna call my custom Kimber "Jenny", just don't be fooled by the rocks that I got

Well my latest gun is a NIB Glock 23 that I purchased yesterday. Took it home and before even firing it I replaced the 5.5 connector with a 3.5 for a better trigger. I also polished the feed ramp with my dremel since Glock is doing a poor job on them these days at the factory. The recoil spring will need to be replaced from the factory 18lb to a ISMI 20lb/captured metal rod to reduce frame battering as the 40cal is undersprung by Glock. Shot the G23 this morning and of course reliability was 100%! The new mag even held 10rds without having to use a crowbar. Accuracy was good and at this point the jury is still out on whether I will put a KKM match barrel in the G23. I try but I just can't stay away from Glocks! They are great pistols!

Let's see...recontoured the frame and dust shield, installed Ed Brown detachable magazine well, MGH match bushing, rosewood grip panels, ramped and throated, finely beadblasted, trigger job. Gunsmithing bill was about two bills total.

Revolvers may get replacement stocks, or keep factory stocks with an added grip adaptor. Snub hammers are usually bobbed.
Minor action smoothing as required, preferably with Wolff spring kits.
If I get a 1911-type with a flat mainspring housing, I like to install the arched version.
Trigger work as required for crispness, NOT for extremely light pull.
I prefer wood stocks on my High Powers, and I always remove the magazine disconnect. I'll end up having higher-visibility sights installed on my older 9mm. I already added a Cylinder & Slide extended safety. The sights and safety on the MK III versions suit me well enough.
Best,
Johnny

I like nice triggers so several of my favorites have been worked in that department. Many of my 1911s have had reliability jobs done to them, even if they didn't 'need' them... just something comforting about the added smoothness after a good reliability job and all that shiny metal inside.
All but two of my 1911s have Wolff 18.5# recoil springs and are reliable with 230 S&B FMJ and 200 and 230 Gr Gold Dots from CCI and Georgia Arms.
And of course, they all have aftermarket grips. Other than that, a few odds and ends such as new sights and replacement slide stops, extractors and mainspring housings.
Actually, the most extensively customized 1911 I own is one of the most basic - figured ebony grips, torx grip screws, checkered slide stop, fitted checkered thumb safety, checkered arched mainspring housing (and internals), checkered wide spur hammer, checkered GI trigger, super crisp 5# trigger job, reliablilty job and pretty much everything inside is polished... and it looks like a run of the mill 1991A1 and still has the cheapie sights and parkerized finish. :p

On my 2 Ruger MkIIs I replaced all the internals with the Volquartsen accurizing kit and replaced the factory grips. The triggers on both are much, much nicer than factory.

My Vertec (Nikita) got a stainless guide rod, D hammer spring, skeletonized hammer, stainless grip screws, a D spacer and a Hogue slip on grip. A trigger job is in her future as soon as I get another Vertec, for those times I want to act like Chow Yun Fat!:D

The only mods I ever do are the ones I can do myself, I am too cheap to pay a gunsmith. Also, I don't trust anyone enough to let them mess with my guns, I let mechanics do work on my car and I have seen how incompetent everyone but me is.:D I also cut my own hair because I can do a better job and I don't have to tip myself.:D
Mods I have done: made grips from scratch for revolvers, polished feedramp, polished chamber, grip tape, new grips, remove mag safety, changed sights, painted sights, filed sights, refinished grips.

On the 3 guns that I own, I modified each just a little:
CZ 85 Combat: Hakan Grips, CZ Rubber grips (not in use now), Homemade Trigger job, Hex Grip Screws (Hogue Ruger MKII), Polished Feed ramp, Wolff 14# recoil spring, Wolff +10% Mag springs, 2 Vonfatman 15rnd mags.
Kimber Stainless Target II: Shooting Arms Cocobolo grips, 2 Wilson 47D mags, 1 Kimber 8 rnd mag (free warranty), S&A arched mainspring housing, Wilson Shok-Buff kit w/recoil spring.
Kahr MK9: Stainless Steel guide rod. (will get wood grips as soon as someone makes some nice ones for it)
I can see myself doing something with the sites on all three of these within a year. I may actually get the nerve up to mail my Kimber out and get some stuff done to it. I think I may send the Kahr to Novak for a melt job. Time will tell.

Actually done, not just would like to do?
Pearce grips on both Makarovs, because they feel much better. 19lb recoil spring on the .380, to try to keep the brass from going into LEO.
Heavier recoil spring on a Ruger, to deal with a feeding problem I was having. (The factory "adjusted the extractor" which didn't fix the problem.)
Dat's all so far.

Well, lets see...
SP101; bead blasted it, polished the cylinder flutes. Trijicon front sight, Wolff springs, new grips.
GP100; Wolff springs, Hogue grips, Millet front sight, polished the entire gun but think I'll bead blast it too.
Kimber Custom II; so far I've only replaced the grips and put grip tape on the frontstrap. Future plans are a hardchrome finish by Tripp Research.
Savage 111; repainted the synthetic stock, adjusted the trigger down to 3.5 lbs
Mauser action .270; just about everything I could do myself, too much to list here but here's a link
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16188&highlight=timney
Mossberg 500A; pistol grip forend, heat shield, new front sight. Latest project, still working on it.
Refinished the stocks on most of my rifles.
Hey, it's a hobby. Keeps me out of the bars!

Colt 1991 Commander.
Full length SS guidrod (pretty, some function)
Heavier spring (work better for me)
Wraparound cherrywood grips (pretty, fit my hand like a glove)
working on fitting a SS bushing (pretty, match the guiderod)
nothing serious, just fun stuff.

I've made just a few simple mods here to one gun and have plans to do just a few to some others...
On my Kimber Custom, I've switched the factory rubber grips out for a set of laminated wooden ones from a buddy's Eclipse II. I've also applied some skateboard tape to the frontstrap. I don't know if this counts as a modification, but I've gone with all Wilson mags for this pistol and have some nice custom leather for it, too.
Nothing so far to my SIG P239 .40, but I'll probably at least slip some skateboard tape on its frontstrap, too, if I don't just replace the factory grips outright. This pistol normally rides in either a Kramer Confidant holster shirt or sometimes a fanny pack.
Nothing to my SAR-1 (Romanian AKM clone) yet, either, but at some point I'd like to replace the wooden furniture on it with something else. Plus I love the look of some of the Scout-style tactical light / scope mounts I've seen for these rifles...I probably have absolutely no need whatsoever for one, but they look sharp! :)

H&K USP Compact .40, added night sights and polished the feed ramp. only polished the feed ramp for the sake of easy cleaning. never had any feeding problems, but it held on the fouling a little too well. 10 minutes with the dremmel tool and now it cleans with just a few swipes with a paper towel to a nice shine. i probably should have left well enough alone, but i like to tinker too, sometimes even if unneccesary. i just don't feel like its really mine until i mess with it a little bit.

To my favorite, HK P7M8, complete NP3 inside and out for the finish, for the sights, Ashley Express small dot tritium front sight and a custom rear by MMC(white side lines w/tritium bar under the rear notch), and to complete the package a set of wood grips by Nill.:)

Well, I'm waiting on my second customized Delta Elite. So I guess I have to say "pretty much everything." :D
Most of my guns have been mostly stock, including the 1911s, which I usually just stick nicer wood grips on and go shoot. I just think customized Delta Elites are neat.

I don't do much to mine at all. If I don't like it how it is, I don't buy it. The only modification I've made to about half of mine and will make on all that can accept is to put on night sights.
The exception to my rule is I have been considering getting a Beretta 92. I was in the shop I frequent the other day and I see Ernest Langdon walk out of the back. Apparently he does some of his work out of this store less than 1.5 miles on road (about a mile straight line) from my house. Apparently he does good work ;) (and skunk, this one is for you:p ).
Edit:
Woah, weird. Just checked out langdontactical. Apparently I lived 2.3 miles from him for years until about 3 years ago. I think its clear that I'm destined to end up with a Beretta 92.
