I currently shoot an XD 9 for IDPA. I'm buying another one for IDPA and am considering the bi-tone model. Is this excluded by the IDPA rule not allowing "full length dust covers of carbon or stainless steel."

No, XD is fine.

Man, I like IDPA, but the rules suck. :) Strangely enough, about half of the guns I routinely carry are IDPA illegal. Luckily my local club doesn't really care except for state sanctioned matches.

The clubs around here don't much care about the "official" IDPA rules, either.

Though I did get nailed with a procedural at the last match for failing to retain a mag that had a round in it. (Stupid, stupid rule.)

In all honesty, though, I was gaming it by counting rounds, but only because my pistol doesn't always lock open on the last shot.

I also enjoy IDPA, though the way I normally carry (glock 26 on the ankle or snubbie in the pocket) are both illegal in competition.
