Is Federal 45C any good?

So is Federal's 45C (185 gr, Hi-Shok JHP, brass case) any good as a defensive load? Ammoman has then on sale for $270/case.

If it matters, the pistols it'd be used in are a SW1911 Commander (4.25" barrel) and a S&W 4513 (3.5" barrel).
