Just wanted to know if anyone has the Taurus model 444 with 8 3/8'' barrel? Was interested in getting one for my next gun. Is the grip on it nice? Is the the raging bull frame all its made out to be? I have shot the S&W 629 5'' barrel before but I like the looks of the Taurus and the choice of the longer barrel.

Do you mean the model 44 or the Raging Bull? Both guns are solid. The Raging Bull is very strong and you won't find a 44 mag load that can shake it apart. The grip is a tad unpleasant for people with small hands.

I have both a 445 (2 in tracker .44) and a 629 4 inch. I LOVE the ribber grip on the Taurus. But I do hear there are some who dislike it. It shoots just fine, but is not up to the quality of the Smith & Wesson (i.e. trigger pull, and sticky parts).

May I ask what you plan to do with it? If you just want to have one, a Taurus will be fine. If you need a serious combat magnum, or are going to be serious about target shooting you need the Smith. Of course, a 44 is poor choice as a regular target gun, as the caliber is expensive.

JMHO :)

I own 3 Taurus revolvers, and like them all. When I was looking for my .44 mag, I went to a local gun shop fully intent on buying the Raging Bull. The grip turned me off, feeling a little oversized for my average sized hands -- and that ugly red stripe on it is just...ugly... The M-44 however (very similar to the SW 629), fit perfectly. The grip is very ergonomical. The bluing is great (despite the excess oil in my picture) and the gun is a tack driver as far as handguns go. I killed my biggest whitetail buck with this gun in 2004 (there's a thread on here somewhere). I've had it out in ice, pouring rain, snow...A little CLP, and the finish looks just like it did on day 1. I'd recommend the M-44 to any handgunner.

Cant you just put a Hogue mono grip on the Raging Bull? There alot of RB's out there there has to be some good grips for it. I too do not like the "ribber" grips and I put a Hogue on mine and love it!
