I was thinking about buying one of these from my friend sometime in the not too distant future and I was wondering if it can use .22lr. I would snatch it up in a heart beat if this were the case. .22 Mag isn't too shabby but If you're going to pay so much more than .22lr it might as well be a centerfire. anyway...thanks for any insight you may have.

No can do...bad ju ju. A .22 LR is too small and won't seal properly in the chamber, typically resulting in a split case and gas escaping in the wrong direction! Yes, it will fit, and pretty close, too, but not close enough. If you want to shoot a LOT, CHEAPLY, then by a 9422, not the Mag. version. If you want the Mag. version, just by your ammo by the case to get the best deal. Hey, I own a .22 Mag, and they're lots of fun, but I own several .22LR's, 'cause they're way cheaper to shoot.

BTW - from what I hear, the 9422M is a pretty good shooter.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will eventually get a 9422 instead then...It would be great to go have a best of both worlds thing goin. too bad. Also, I was wondering, what was the .22mag designed for in the first place? thanks again.

Not sure what it's designed for, exactly. My guess is just generally to extend the range of the 22LR. Crows at 125 yards can be taken with 22 magnum and I've taken coyote to 75 yards with the right shot and Winchester Supreme ammo... I wouldn't try that with 22LR, at least not for recreation.

I'd say that there is a considerable increase in versatility with 22 magnum over 22LR but if I didn't have either, I'd get a nice 22LR first. Magnum is considerably louder and while I take shots from time to time without hearing protection with a 22LR rifle, my 22 Magnum, fired off one of my decks (so a house as a reflective object) is plenty loud and I will try to not do that again.

I was looking for a good used 9422 when I found a 9422M (magnum) instead... it was a steal @ 150 bucks, so I grabbed it... (I had a buttload of .22LR.s alredy)

Whatta great gun... I wouldn't get rid of it no matter what... and it was FAR from a mistake...

I still wanted a .22LR levergun, so I grabbed up a new Henry Lever Action Repeater to fill the bill...

ANOTHER great deal... I love that gun too... and new it was only 190 bucks...

I'd say that if you can get that 9422M cheap, go fer it... and grab a Henry whenya get the chance!

Wow! A 9244 Magnum for $150? Unless it was thrown out of a moving car, I'd be all over that.

Shalako, Thanks. We were very fortunate to find this place. Family needed to move out due to a job change and we got a great deal on it. We can see two neighbors in the same direction and other than that, I can pretty much shoot in 300 degrees around our house. It's pretty small, smaller than our last house, but it has 5 decks!

Indiana is beautiful but it doesn't hold a candle to North Carolina. Now, back to the non-hijacked thread. :p
