this is a recent pic i got while on a scouting trip for the upcoming deer hunt. the sd gf&p has been hard at work in getting sheep back on the prairie, and it was wonderful seeing them out there. saw about 2 dozen in all. let's hear it for the sd gf&p and all the co's who are good at what they do!

And a round of applause for the private funding, as well. Plus, the volunteer labor of building guzzlers to enhance water availability.
Some of the public money comes from guys bidding up to $100K for a permit, with the money committed to the restoration efforts.

lenny- there has been a bighorn season in s.d. for years, but it has always been in the black hills. these guys were on the prairie.

Yeah; Nevada. There, the population has grown enough such that the Texas wildlife folks bought some for stocking in the Sierra Diablo near Van Horn, and at the Elephant Mountain WMA south of Alpine. The domestic sheep disease, "Blue Tongue", is no longer a problem. They've even allowed a few hunting permits in the Sierra Diablo.
