Iowa has offered cheap Landowner/Tennant deer tags for years.....but you weren't required to show proof of owning land to get them. Leave a loophole and creative pond scum will find a way to abuse the system. Now need to include the tax I.D. number from your property tax statement to receive a landowner tag.

As much as I dispise more governmental redtape, I suppose it's the only way to weed out the dishonest.

Id hardly call that red tape and how else are they going to ensure that only landowners get a discounted license?

I think it's a great idea. Of course I didn't know one could get a land owners tag without showing proof of owning land.
Kind of like being a NR and getting a resident tag without showing a DL.
Rembrant just write your tax number in your wallet and you will not have to worry about forgeting it at home.
I think it's pretty stupid to have a law that doesn't require it.

Michigan has done that for years. In order to get a doe tag for my buddy's dad's place in the Upper Peninsula, I had to have the tax id number, along with the owner's written permission to be hunting on his land.
