Local shop has a Remington 700 ML for $199. I talked them down to $180. It is in good condition. No scope or rings. Black with synthetic stock. It lookds like their entry model.

Any issues with the Remington?

Looks like they aren't making them anymore. Remington only lists Genesis models on their site. Will that be a problem? (Parts)

How is that price for a used one?

My other option is Walmart TC Omega with kit for $298.....but I really would rather spend my $$ on handguns, leverguns, etc.

shouldn't this be in the rifle forum?

and yes, remington 700's are widely liked. as i understand that us army uses a modded version for one of thier sniper rifles.

When the Rem 700 ML's first came out they were an expensive muzzle loader - I think mine was right at $470 new. Last year Bass Pro or Cabelas had them on sale for a short while for $199 for the SS model. The 700ML had some problems so me and my best friend traded ours off to a gunshop right before their value plummeted. There are still some new ones floating around and the prices are stuck up there. I think you could find better for the $200. Here is an article on the 700ML that talks about some of the issues.

A cousin bought the 700ML stainless (synth stock) in .54...

They are #11 cap-fired (there is a 209 conversion available... don't know much about it) and the firing pin spring transfers force through both the bolt handle and a little allen screw that is supposed to retain the bolt. The allen screw took up the force first and dimpled part of the bolt, causing binding. We had to go at it with a file after maybe 15 shots. .. after that it has been OK. His has a scope and shoots sabboted rounds pretty well from what I've seen. Cleaning is kinda weird because they are trying to avoid having to clean the trigger assembly... not sure I trust that.

Dunno if the blued version is worth $180.

i dont really think chuck hawks reviews are worth reading he is clearley has a fetish for thompson center guns. and knights but if you want a reral obgetive view look at gunt tests .com they dont favor any brand and tell it like it is. chuck hawks is biased and bull crap. heres a link to guntests.com where they compared it to nights 835.00 dollar gun and guess what the remington 700 was the winner.

5 thumbs down for chuck hawks.
