I have a bushy C15 flattop that is jamming rounds into the feed ramp. Sometimes it's bad enough to push the bullet back into the case. I also noticed that the jackets have deep gashes after being jammed.

I've had this problem in the past and I bought a new magcatch which seemed to help the problem, but it is rearing its ugly head again.

Help Please:(

oops. is there a way to move this, I just realized this would probably be a better thread for the Gunsmithing board.

Nomoney, are you using reloads? Is the ammo fmj, soft point or hollow point. If not reloads, what brand of ammo are you using. What about how often you clean it. Have you tried other brands of magazines?Byron

Im using just Fmjs. So far ive tried wolf, winchester Q3131A, Federal xm193, Hunting shack, with all the same results.
Mags: 3 USGI, 1 Bushy factory mag, 1 Taiwanese something or other. again, same results.
no reloads. cleaning the thing after every outing, which is usually 50-150 rounds.

I should also mention that a quick and easy way to remedy the situation is to stick a small waded piece of paper behind the magazine, but even that doesn't work 100% of the time.

Use a Dremel tool and polish the ramps. Use Good Mags. Don't stick paper in it. And if you had a problem with the mag catch check for burrs.

Sounds like the mag is not sitting properly in the lower. If the mag is a little low, the round may pop up and strike the top of the barrel extension first. I would consider sending the rifle to Bushmaster and have them check it out, since it happens on all of your magazines.

If it's not mags, it's probably a lower that's seating the mags too low. If you've bought NEW good quality reputable USGI-spec magazines (not new steel ones, not used somethingorother, but GOOD MAGS) and it still does it, it's probably time for the rifle to take a trip to Bushy....

You say you have a Bushmaster C15 - may I assume that is a Carbon 15? If that is the case look at the polymer lower right underneath the feed ramps of the barrel extension. There are probably small pocks in the plastic there caused by the nose of FMJ rounds hitting below the feed ramp during feeding. Over time, it will wear a hole in the plastic and the round will hang up as you described.

If you have this condition, send it back to Bushmaster and they should take care of you.

Bartholomew, I took a look at what you said to look at. It doesn't seem to be it. and yes, to clarify, It is a Carbon 15.
Also, I got the rifle used. Could that present problems in sending it to bushmaster?

I'd give them a call. Bushmaster is generally pretty good about customer service, even if you weren't the original purchaser.
