First question, what are you planning on using it for and why?

Planning to use it for self defense. It is not legal to carry a firearm where I live.

I've been zapped by them before, several times in training and once by a :cuss: :fire: :what: :banghead:  :barf: at a party. Not impressive. Not debilitating. The Taser has some good points, but it's expensive and often illegal in jurisdictions where you can not have firearms. The manufacturers' own fine print usually suggests something along the lines of "hold for three or four seconds against the eyes, throat or genitals". I maintain that if you can hold a shocker box to a guy's twigs and berries for four seconds you aren't in a fight. You are in some sort of bizarre electro-fetish S&M scene or you're one of Cheney's Office of Special Projects torturers at a "forward detention facility" doing abominations against prisoners.
If you're looking at this as a substitute for a firearm you are going to be sadly and maybe fatally disappointed. You might want to consider alternatives.

You'd be better of just having a regular baton and hitting them with it or better yet, some good running shoes.

Yep, Kestrel, I think torture is evil, even when Americans do it. Suffer.

"...not legal to carry a firearm where I live..." You'd best find out if your 'stun baton' is legal there too. It may not be. A small can of hairspray is legal everywhere. As is an oak walking stick. Hickory will do in a pinch. So will ash.
