My trip to the Gun shop today- new opinions.

Well i took a trip to the range/ gun shop today and as always i have to handle a few guns, often times the same gun every trip.
I used to own a Gen one Glock 17 and liked it alot, but ultimatly it was just too ......well i dont know....i fell in love with the P99 as being my MAIN squeeze.
Today i decided to handle some Gen 3 glocks, first the 19, which i really like the way it feels and then the Gen 3 17. I have to admit, im begining to like them again. there is justsomething about them.........i cant put my finger on it, but they just feel good in the hand.
another gun i handled was a beretta 93F. I never have liked the way these guns feel or look, and after handling one today, i continued to feel the same way, they just feel awkward in the hand. I slightly remember shooting one some years back, i dont remember disliking it, but i also dont remember being impressed.
The other gun i handled was a p-11 keltec..........i own a p32 and love it to death, its my constant carry gun, but this big version the p11........eh, well ill just stick with the little one.
I also handled a Bersa 380 which, because of the price, i am beginning to like more and more.....although id probably go for a firestorm version just because of the improved grip and trigger guard.......
just sharing some thoughts...

As all the stuck ups say...the p99 is the gun Glock ment to make. Its a lovely gun. Yea i got the poor redheaded stepchild sw99, but I still love it. What I like is the safety of the hard DA pull, but i can easily get around that by cocking the gun and that sa pull is just sweet. The ability the trigger has to lock back in a super short pull postion so you dont have to go though the full pull every shot, wow. I like the grip angle on it better than that of a glock, this is personal prefs tho. Not to mention when you buy a 99 series gun you get a complete package with interchangable back straps, 3 front posts, windage adjustable rear sights, 2 mags, and well a dang good looking gun :D

Bowlcut, you ever get good at doing that 3/8" slide pull to move from DA to SA ? I'd never do that heading into danger. I get way to many feed failures trying that manuever gently so I have to rack the whole slide and catch-and-reload the ejected round.
I liked the first gen Glock 17 a lot. I only noticed the odd weight distribution and maybe more muzzle flip compared to its all-metal competition at the time.
I'll probably go the other way and pick up a Glock again.

I liked the saftey features on the P99. The ergonomics were what sold me in the end!

If i ever get a glock, it will just be a range gun. the P99 is what i trust my life to.
its nice to know when the Sh*t hits the fan, you can quickly grab a reliable weapon.
the DA pull is no problem, i see no reason to do the short slide back to get it into SA. I practice (im a sheriff reserve BTW) by drawing from the holster and firing the first round in DA........just something to get used to...........i figure if i miss with the first round the other 16 might hit something......hopefully that is (one in the chamber and a full high cap LEO mag=17 rounds)

Bowlcut, you ever get good at doing that 3/8" slide pull to move from DA to SA ?
I've heard there's a P99 holster that allows you to push the gun down the 3/8" to "cock" it to SA mode, but haven't been able to figure out which one. It should be pretty easy to push and draw to get all SA shots.

Short stroking the slide to cock the trigger is a good way of inducing a jam under stress.
If you make it a habit, someday you might need the gun and end up screwing with the slide while being shot at. You pull it back a little to far, and you've induced a FTE type jam. Bad news.
The guns was not meant to be cocked, like the S&W autos with the flush hammers.

What are you buying this gun for? That would be useful information :)

ive done it a few times. i just want to know why you would want to do it? da works just fine, and only throws my shot off an inch or two at the most. So why worry. It goes bang when i pull the trigger, and goes where i want it.

Yep, get a Glock! And spare yourself from all those DA/SA maneuver sillyness. Glock is simple, reliable, durable and reliable! ;)

Glock = beginner gun..
P99 = master's weapon

*If i ever get a glock, it will just be a range gun. the P99 is what i trust my life to.*
Since when have Glocks been unreliable?
I've got 3 GLOCKS and 25 thousand rounds though the 3 of them.They group like they are brand new and only carry my G27 on the knowledge its been proven through and through.
I've got a Walther P99,O/D 40sw proof marks and all.It wont fire the first round thru sling shot method,you have to lock the slide and release for it to fire the first round.I sent it back to SW the importer of Walther USA.
They sent it back to me and said your stuck with it,sorry!
Gaston and the Boys wouldn't allow this type of poor Quality control.They'd fix it more over send brand new replacement.
My Colt 1911 is more relialble than this P99 is,and we all have heard the horror stories on these 1911's
The P99 is my range plinker when I have time to work out the bugs.
What a Laugh!

David S, you're obviously a plastic guy.
Have you tried any USP's?
Normally I don't like plastic, but I kinda liked the feel of one I tried.

I've always thought that a "master" was someone who didn't get too wrapped up in the type of pistol he was using. ;)

Wow! People sure have brand-name or style hang-ups on these boards. Want to pick a fight? Just say something bad about a Glock or a 1911.
I suppose if there were more Walther owners we'd be jumping all over those other guys too. Wait one of us just did above. Can't we all just get along (and agree to only bash Lorcin's...).
Handy. You can tell I agree with you about not wanting to short-stroke the slide to cock it. BUT, this is one of the methods Walther tells us we can use. Just seemed like I was missing something since, as you mentioned, it is a jam-o-matic technique.

H.D./range gun = G-17
CCW/H.D. = G-19 or G-26

alright, ill be fair to everyone here.
the BEST GUN in the world is the one that YOU can shoot the best with and feel most comfortable with.
If that happens to be a Bersa thunder then so be it.........then , for you, thats a better gun than a 1911 ect..........
You are right, we tend to get very brand name oriented. I for one do not consider myself a "plastic" kinda guy, because i like glocks, dont love um, and i dont care for USPs much at all.
Id consider myself more of a Walther man.......complete with hat and tshirt!!!
I used to own a Gen 1 G17, and i have to say, i loved it, but that was around the time the P99 came out and it stole my heart.
I like Glocks, i think they are damn reliable, but i dont see them as the serve all answer to all pistol situations. I dont think the baby glocks, for example, are the best for CCW, but many swere by them. Again, it all falls down to what YOU like and feel good with. and that, no one can dictate to you.

Glock = beginner gun..
P99 = master's weapon
Glock, SIG, Beretta, 1911 = beginner gun
Whatever is on hand = master's weapon.
Regardless of what you think about them, three of the best practical shooters that come to mind are Cirillo, Taylor and Ayoob and I think they are both comfortable using a wide variety of guns. And I'd be willing to bet that Rob Leatham can use a stock XD to outshoot every one of us using our very favorite, tricked-out, raced-up 1911s. ;)

Whenever I say "get a Glock" I am just making fun of all those people that really mean it.:D
Glock people are like the Borg, it is not enough for them to be happy with there own gun, they have to assimilate you too.:uhoh:

Get a glock, and shoot it like sh**
just like everyone else I see at the range who buys them as their first gun..
They shoot a 4" group at 7 yards and for some reason are happy with that.

I gotta a question....Why not carry it Cond 1 (in essence) and not worry about racking the slide 3/8" to get it there. It still has all of the safeties in place....
Ive thought alot about one of these guns......with nights and hi caps......aaahhhhh
Shoot well

if you cant draw a gun with one hand, get it into ready position and start firing , again with ONE HAND, then you might be dead before you can do anything else. I dont like the idea of a manual safety in my way. The P99 kept chambered and decocked (double action mode) is very safe because of the long trigger pull, but can be drawn with one hand and fired.........if you have to take your other hand and rack the slide..........well, thats just one thing too much.
