Like the title says: Will $350 get me a decent Model 19 or 66 with a 2.5 barrel(really liking the blue though )? I know region and market demand has an effect on prices (Im in the Jacksonville, FL area and those idiots at S&W discontinued the K-Frame .357). There doesnt seem to be any in stock at the big stores in Jax but theres a gun show Sept 23 and 24 in Jax (where I might be able to get my hands on one).

Thanks in advance,
-L7

I have seen at least one round butted two and a half inch Model 66 in a pawn shop for under $350.
In fact, I bet it's still there......Let me check my Rolodex...... Billy's Pawn Shop in Winnfield Louisiana. $325.

I just bought a Model 19-4 in nickel with a 4 inch barrel (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/08/smith-wesson-model-19-4-nickel.html) for $279. The guns are out there, and priced in your budget.

It almost got me a nice 4" a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I was holding out for a 3" Model 13, which I never found. The guy, a fellow club member, sold it before I saw him again the next week.

It's just as well. I'll be buying a 6" or 6 1/2" Model 29-2 soon, and that's $350 towards that purchase...

I bought a used (but certainly not abused) S&W 2.5" 66-4 for $225 OTD,
last year. I chunked the Uncle Mike's rubber grips, and installed a set of
the regular checkered walnut round butt grips. Its a great K-frame fire
arm; offering the power of the .357 magnum cartridge. :D

You might also be on the lookout for a good Ruger Security-Six or Speed-Six. This will give you the same size gun that will be a lot stronger. In Florida, I'd pick stainless steel, whatever you get; but if you buy a K-frame size gun used make sure you check it out. If many magnums are fired through these smaller guns, the gun frames can warp out of time. (As few as 2,000 rounds of magnum rounds can damage some K-frame Smiths; 4,000 can ruin some.) Some of the older guns are said to be a bit stronger, but who knows?

The 66s were great little guns.

I bought a LNIB M19 a couple years ago for $299. You should be more than able to find one within your budget.

Check www.JGsales.com or www.GunsAmerica.com

They list JGSales S&W revolvers for lower prices. The handguns are used but in decent shape.

My local shop has a nice pinned 19 2-1/2" blue for $350.00, I think it's a little on the high side though.

You might consider broadening your search to include the 3 inch model 13 or 65. These are the fixed sight versions of the .357 K frame in blue (13) and stainless (65).

But these are very sought after guns too.

Getting harder everyday. Seems like they're going up about $50-$75 a year. If you like 'em grab 'em

Xavier -- yours looks almost exactly like mine, excepting the front sight insert which mine has and yours does not. Nice piece, nicest shooter. The usual b**** to clean.

I bought a very good condition 19-3 2.5-inch gun, nickel finish last year for 299. Love it. I am in California where the prices are likely as high as any place. Six months ago saw a 66-2 for 400. Thought it was too high at the time and have been kicking myself for months for not buying. If you want it get it. The price will soon be forgotten.

Your price range should work. Just dont count on finding one while your looking for it. Best bet is to just keep the money handy so it will be there when you stubble upon exactly what you want while you happen to be looking for something else. At least thats how it always works for me.

There were two M66s in the low $300 range at the pawnshop where I picked up my nice 3" M65. They're out there. Honestly, I was very surprised to find them all there in one pawnshop--the gunshops around here don't seem to cater to the used market much. I'll be checking out the pawnshops more often.
