I finally got around to doing something I have needed to do for a long time.
I am cleaning out my safe, oiling everything down, and recording serial numbers so I can make a disc for safe keeping.
With that in mind, I would appreciate the DOB of the following guns.
Colt Delta Elite ser # DS055xx
Colt Python ser # K574xx
S&W model 57 ser # N3904xx
S&W Model 57-1 ser # AUC20xx
S&W Model 25-5 ser # N8444xx
S&W Model 37 ser # J8235xx
TIA

Colt Delta Elite ser # DS055xx was made after 1985. The publicly available Colt serial number references stop with 1985.
To get a production date, call the Colt plant during business hours and they will give you a date over the phone, but NO other information.
Colt Python ser # K574xx was made in 1981. The numbers started at K16266, and ended at K75747.
I have no data on S&W.

I guess I don't get it. With the exception of cases where there is a legal cutoff of some kind (e.g., 1 Jan 1899 for antiques), why do people put so much effort into finding out when a gun was made? I can see recording the serial number for inventory, of course, but manufacture date? Who cares? (And unless I was asleep in biology class, guns are made, not born.)

Curiosity......some have it, some don't.
I would bet you don't.
Then there are the true collectors who really, really care when their guns were made.
I am just curious.
