I have been Lusting after a Randall Model 1 since I toured the factory in 1975 when I was a Freshman in High School. I would love to have a Model 1 with a Brass guard and cap with a stacked leather handle. Not sure whether Carbon steel or SS, but at least a 6" Maybe a 7".
Time to wipe the keyboard.
Show us your dream and if you got it or not.
Not yet, someday.

Oh, just a question, do you prefer a Stainless Steel or Carbon Steel

My dream knife...wow. I don't have a pic of it since I'm not sure it exists. But it would be a big bowie, damascus steel, totally hand-made. My name etched into the handle made of fossilized mammoth bone, my birthstone, the diamond, set in the pommel... It would be a work of art as much as a knife.

Personally, the only knife I keep looking for is a Dozier Folding Hunter. Unfortunately, he's not making them right now, and hasn't for some time.
------------------------
Brian - FWIW, I've been using a Randall Model 3 (5" blade, stacked leather handle, tool-steel blade). I've carried it often and used it while hunting, camping and fishing, in all kinds of weather. Once the blade takes on a little patina, it doesn't require a lot of care.
There have been two times when I had rust show up. One of the first times I used it, I cleaned a bunch of birds, put them in the freezer, cleaned my shotgun and took a shower. Forgot about the knife. Several hours later, the blood and stuff on the blade had made some pretty ugly (and orangish) spots. I used some metal polish and it took about 5 minutes to get the blade looking new again.
The second time was a couple weeks ago, when I took out my hunting gear and went over everything. There was just a tiny amount of what looked like surface rust (a couple light pencil-eraser sized spots). I used some Iosso bore cleaner and polished the spots off in under a minute. Since I wasn't using the knife much this year, I had stored it in its sheath and hadn't put some protective oil on it first. Oh well, no harm, no foul.
As far as the knife goes, the blade is maybe a little thicker and a little longer than optimal, but I've gotten used to it and find it extremely versatile.

Bob Loveless Drop Point Hunter, but at $3500 and rising I doubt if I ever get one. I did order one from Mike Lovett, who has all the patterns and wheels from Loveless and even shares steel with him.
When I visited Loveless 9/04 he put one in my hand that was just like in the picture. I swear that thing is electric! :)

That Randall 1 is my dream knife, too. A Randall 2 would be nice, also. The last time I looked, there was a 5 year waiting period. They did have a few on Ebay, for around twice of retail.
I saw one at a gunshop for $150, 20 years ago. I've been kicking myself ever since.
Maybe someday.

My dream knife isn't all that rare, just out of my price range (for now).
Its the Busse Combat Battle Mistress Ergo (BM-e).

Being one that thinks your car should never cost more than your house, I also feel a knife shouldn't cost more than your most expensive rifle/shotgun :( .

Golly, that's a difficult one. A single "dream" knife?!
Always wanted the Loveless drop point hunter. http://www.classicgunsandknives.com/photos/loveless_drop-point-hunter.jpg
BTW I sold my Randall collection, except for the Micarta handled 8" #1 carbon blade knife Bo made me in 1967 and I carried on 2 tours of RVN, to get these!

I like my UK spyderco pen knife, it's always in my pocket and I really don't know how I lived without it.
I love my Leatherman wave like I used to love my SAK.
I have an "interesting" knife collection already, but I've yet to even figure out what my dream knife is, I've seen things that have come close and they are a few maybes,
Bokers Ltd Edition FS knife being one.

Mike, dude.... you above everyone, know how much I want one of those knives but I only want it when I can afford the whole hog-hunt package to go with it:)
And at the moment I'm on thin ice with the wife anyway, thats without me factoring in the cost of the blade and hunt, flights to the US and the price of all the courses I will try to fit in whilst I'm over there:evil:
It's in my pocket as I write this:
Benchmade Osborn 941 (http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=941).
Use it everyday.

My holly grail knife is a Emerson Halfmoon logo'd CQC6. I have been chasing that knife for a long time and it has eluded me since. Someday I will own one, some day.:(

I've wanted one since I read the article on the old WSI site about all the design features. Seems like a perfect little backpacking knife. I didn't realize until I just did the search to post this picture that WSI is now gone since the founder passed away earlier this year. Looks like I'll have to breakdown and buy one soon before they are gone.
I have to say that I did find my perfect everyday pocket knife in the Kershaw Ken Onion Scallion.

My "Dream knife" used to be a Busse Combat AK-47. Now it's one of the older Straight Handle Battle Mistresses...
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y298/HiluxTaco/AK21a-1.jpg
ive wanted one of these for years. ever since i read hannibal by thomas harris. the spyderco 'civilian' was hannibal lecters choice of carry knife. the reverse s blade lets the user cut really deep really fast with one slash.
biggest reason ive never bought one is cause me and spyderco knifes have a bad track record of me losing them. ive had 5 fall out of my pocket(or stolen, i donno which) and i wont carry a knife unless i just dont give a rats butt about it.

12 in fixed blade Civilian? When do you want it made? Plenty of guys here in the states that could grind one out for you.

Oh sure, I know plenty of bladesmiths in the UK, it's just the cost vs the use :neener:

the beauty of the civilian is that its a folder. however, a 12 inch serrated reverse S blade would rock! i donno what id do with that bad mammerjammer tho. at that size it would lose function for me. maybe a hd knife? at that point why not get a hatchet or short sword.
Fosbery

Exactly, perfect for HD. Swords etc require a lot of training to use propery, the Civillian is meant to be natural to use and require no real training.

I would be happy simply to have a high-quality auto folder, ala MicroTech. Sadly they're verboten in WA. :(
