Osceola Deputies Seize 63 Guns, 290 Knives From Apartment

Police Find Weapons While Investigating Earlier Accidental Shooting

Posted: 8:50 a.m. EST January 4, 2003

ST. CLOUD, Fla. -- A weapons cache that included 63 guns and 290 knives was seized from the bedroom of a downtown home Friday by federal agents and local police investigating an earlier accidental shooting.

The weapons were in a duplex apartment rented by Samuel Joseph Wooley, said Capt. Fran Iwanski of the Osceola County Investigations Bureau. He said Wooley willingly gave up the weapons, but didn't immediately explain where they came from or why he had them.

Agents of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said checks with national databases show that at least three of the guns were reported stolen.

Wooley wasn't been charged, but an investigation was ongoing, Iwanski said.

Agents found the weapons after Wooley's brother, Joseph Austin Wooley, 27, accidentally shot himself in the thigh Jan. 1 with a .45-caliber handgun at his apartment in St. Cloud, said police Sgt. Vinny Shepard.

There, police seized two grams of methamphetamine, two handguns and a loaded AK-47, a fully automatic weapon, Shepard said.

Documents at Joseph Wooley's apartment led authorities to think guns were stashed at Samuel Wooley's home, Shepard said.

The guns were found in a closet blocked by a bookshelf. They included 25 rifles and shotguns and 38 pistols. Five guns were loaded, police said.

Some of the 290 knives appeared to be antiques, police said.

Five guns were loaded, police said.

Just five?!? Sheesh. Everything we have is loaded (except the bolt rifles and .22's).

Who was it that said an unloaded gun is a doorstop?

Two grams of a "controlled substance." We MUST seize this man's weapons and strip him of his 2nd Amendment rights immediately!

The shooting and the drug seizure occured at the brother's house.

How did the police get probable cause to search the other brother's house in another location where no unusual incident occurred??? No mention is made of any warrent being issued. By "consenting" to the police entry and search, this dufuss gave up ALL of his Constitutional rights.

Hey, I'm all for the RTKBA but when you have not just drugs but bad drugs in your house along with a bunch of guns, bad things might happen to your guns. Esp when you allow people to shoot said guns inside city limits.

No compassion from me. Of course, I wouldn't let my wife's brother EVER stay at our house alone.

Does meth & guns sound like a good combo to anyone?
