I bought this Taurus .44 magnum

http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?id=224&category=Revolver

When sighting it in at 25 yards it was shooting about 2 1/2 inches high from point of aim. But when I went to adjust the sight, I found it was screwed down as close to the frame as possible. :scrutiny:
Whats up with that?
A) I was using "Winchester" brand .44 magnum 240 gr. JSP shells.
B) I was using a pistol rest to eliminate all "wavering"
C) Is this a gun which needs to be shot at longer distances?

As this gun is fairly new I don`t want to screw around altering the rear sight to make it sit lower (filing the bottom of the sight) Are there options? Or do I have to buy a new sight? Or shoot at a longer distance?
Or should I just take it back to the dealer?

Raising the rear sight lowers the point of impact.....I'm getting one of those and am putting an UltraDot on it....just heard that Taurus is raising their prices.....

All due respect Crosser (and I could be wrong) but I think the rear sight always should be moved in the direction you want the hit to move.

Move to the left - impact moves to the left.

Move upward -- impact moves upward.

I did a little further research, and this is copied from another website.

Move the rear sight in the direction you want the bullet to go. For example, if you're shooting low, raise the rear sight. If you're shooting left, move the rear sight to the right.

yes, bird, you are right....I keep forgetting this old addage and that is......commit to memory “FORS”. This stands for “Front Opposite, Rear Same”.

Call Taurus.....ask for a service tech....tell them the problem....ask for a shipping label so you don't have to pay shipping...
