I am new to East TN, and need to get some idea of where to go to hunt wild boar/pigs. I dont know anyone, so I'm assuming that public land is the way I will have to go. Any suggestions?

I would look at the TWRA web site: http://www.state.tn.us/twra/huntmain.html
Call a warden in the area you are in for info. I live in East Tennessee and don't really know. You hear of a lot of problems in the Smoky Mt. Park area. Hunting is of course illegal in the park. Hence, the Cherokee National Forest area would encompass it (but that is a huge land area). There is a private boar hunting place. They advertise and have a web site. I keep thinking it is in the Carthage-Livingston-Jamestown area. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Have you checked out western NC? I have seen several guide services while doing a search. There are state game lands in Western NC. Check out www.ncdeer.com there are several folks on there that live up in the mountians that hog hunt. I am sure they will be glad to help you.

Well.....I'm afraid that many of those guided hunts are for fenced game and stuff. I'm not so sure about doing that.
I just rode over the smokies into Cherokee, NC today on the motorcycle. That's just gorgeous country.

Check with Larry Harley at Lonesome Pine Knives. He does knife boar hunts, but certainly knows where to get big porkers. Email him at info@lonesomepineknives.com and tell him Mike Crenshaw sent you to him.

The Ocoee region of the Cherokee Nat'l Forest is where the last wild boar meat I ate came from. If memory serves, that's in Polk County. But if you're in Knoxville area, the Ocoee is south of ya.
Buddy had took his boy out there on his first hunt. They were actually hunting for deer, but the boar was what the kid got to kill.
Had all of it but one ham ground up into sausage. They shared the ham at Christmas that year. The ham was good, but the sausage was better. Of course all that depends on the cook. I didn't cook the ham, but I did cook the sausage that they were very generous in sharing with me.:D
