Milsurp rifles have really been catching my eye lately and I was looking for some advice. I've been looking at the M91/30 and also the No4 MkI. I like the whole WW2 sniper setups and wouldn't mind getting one of those PU 4x scopes for the M91(or someting similar). I need to keep my budget under $500(Saiga project) and wouldn't mind having a more available caliber. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreiciate it, thanks.

The whole M91 family are good guns. Biult like tanks, with cheap Mil-surp and inexpensive (Wolf and S&B) commercial ammo. The one made by the Finns are the best (and most expensive). WWII era Soviet guns are the most dodgy (especially in barrel tolerances) quality and accuracy wise. Although I have a 1942 M38 with a dark, frosty bore (counterbored too) that shoots 2-3 inches at 100yds (sitting, not off a bench), which is pretty good. Don't let that scare you though, they are good guns. Cheap too (except Finns). Only some of the more rare Finns and snipers come close to $500. The only real snipers I've seen are over $1000. Most of the others are replicas. M91-30's are $69.95 at AIM.
Enfields, are well, Enfields. As long as the barrel and the sights are in good shape you'll be OK. I've never heard of anybody complain about Enfield accuracy, as long as the gun was in decent shape. There is, for all intents and purposes, no surplus ammo left. Wolf and S&B make it, along with the standard American brands. Generally available for under $500. Usually around $200 for one in good shape.
There are also about a zillion Mauser variants in anything from 6.5 Swedish to 8x57JS. Pick your poison. $79-?????.
Swiss K-31's are excellent rifles. Well cared for. Stocks can be a bit beat up from carry, but I have never seen a bad bore. They have excellent triggers also. Very well made and very accurate. 7.5 Swiss surplus is a bit pricey, but is non-corrosive. Wolf makes it now too. $99 to $200 or so. ($200 for a nice one, retail).
So many, so little money.
