I want to get my CHL soon, I can really only afford one right now. Any other suggestions. I dont have alot of experience with autoloaders, basically i would like one that i can use at the range, HD and concealed carry.

I find my Sig P220 works well in all the roles you've defined.

Do you have a caliber preference?

In any case, I think some kind of CZ flavor would work nicely for you.

Sig's too expensive - brand name is a too big part in the prize. Rather a CZ (these are good) or some other company that doesn't charge you for the privilege of owning one of their products.

P220 is a big gun, about the same size as the S&W 1006/4506.

For range and HD, fine. But throw carry into the equation and the P220 is impractical unless you weigh 300 lbs or wear heavy clothing all the time.

For this application, something in the semi-compact arena would be best.

I persopnally carry a Witness Compact 10mm full-time. It is small enough to conceal in all but the lightest clothing, yet there is enough gun that it is shootable for extended periods of time. There are a number of pistols in this size/weight arena in any popular chambering (9x19mm, .40, .45).

The CZ-75 or Baby Eagle compact models are great, affordable guns.
S&W 5906 is a bit larger, but still not too hard to conceal (only slightly larger than my Witness). If you want .45, there is the Semi-compact Baby Eagle, S&W 4516, 4566 and 457, Sig (239?) and others.

I do not recommend a full-size if it is to be your only carry gun. You will find yourself carrying less and less when the situation is not conducive to hiding large pistols.

I honestly recommend two carry pieces for this reason. I have a Kel-Tec P3AT for days when I dress to lightly to pack the Witness.

I think machiv nailed it,,, if you ONLY get one, get one you can carry, any time, any where, the Keltec P3AT fits that criteria.

The first rule of gun fighting is "have a gun",,, If you have one at home it does not count. (The second rule of gunfighting is that the fastest draw is to ALREADY have the gun in your hand, so get the belt clip to carry it.)

There are a short number of single stack 9mm. out there.Have shot the S&W Ladysmith 3913 and liked it.Shorter and more compact than a double stack. Then there is the Kahr K9,shot one only once but liked it for the same reasons as the Smith. Both have 3.5 barrels and are easy to conceal.Quality was outstanding.SIG makes the P239 and all the revues are rave ones.I have three Ruger P Series autos and a PT111 from Taurus.Since choices are subjective try as many makes as possible.Your the user.Have fun and good luck.
