I want a .22 but I'm not sure what I want. It's only a target gun for the range. I like the single six, 22/45 and the 10/22. It's MOSTLY for my 14, and 10 year old kids, just can't decide. HELP !!!

My recommendation in a 22lr would first be for a dao wheelgun followed by a 10/22 and then a semi auto. Since you don't have a dao wheelgun mentioned, I guess the 10/22 wins out by default.

I think you're on the right track considering the Ruger 10/22 rifle. You can get them at WalMart or just about any "big box" sporting goods store, and there are so many after-market add-ons available for them that you can upgrade the thing as needed.
Out here in the wilds of western Montana, we have these little pests known locally as "gophers" (they're actually Columbian ground squirrels), and I'd wager more Ruger 10/22s are used on them than all the other brands and calibers combined. In fact, during "gopher season," it's hard to find a used 10/22 in a gun store.
Teaching younger shooters is much easier with a rifle than with a handgun, although .22 handguns also make good "first guns."
I own many rifles and handguns, but I shoot my Ruger 10/22 all summer long (at least until the "gophers" go back underground--like they have now), since I can get ammo for $1 a box. I do have a scope on mine, but it's otherwise box-stock.
Good shooting,

Every gun owner should have a 10/22. It's great for teaching kids to shoot. IMO one of the top 10 firearms of the 20th century.

Get the 10/22. Your kids will like not having to load between shots and being able to throw a lot of lead downrange.

If it is you kids first go with a firearm I'd suggest a decent bolt action rifle in 22 cal. Best type to teach them firearms safety and how to shoot accurately. I don't like to go to a range and having some kid shooting up boxes of ammo, not hitting anything, just making noise. Once they learn the rifle and if they express interest in handguns, start them out with a double action revolver.

Own a Marlin 99C in 22,but thinking about purchasing the Ruger. In the pistols department if you want 22 revolver I would recommend Smith & Wesson or Taurus 94.The revolvers usually have stiff double action pulls. However the single actions on either are light.Help me here fellas. It's been awhile since I shot a new Smith rimfire revolver. The Ruger single 6 is a great SA gun.It comes with a 22 mag cylinder. It's what I started out on many years ago .Was hitting the target consistenly at 15 yards quickly and boosted my confidence at how simple it all seemed. That changed when I went to the double action 38s.Took more time to do well. Also can recommend Ruger Mk III or the Browning Buckmark series of SA pistols. The brother in law has a Buckmark and it works well. Both are accurate enough and easy to handle. In my humble opinion. Others here will be making very good recommendations,so exit stage left.
