Hi all! I want to organize a southern maine shoot some weekend in late September/early October.

I have a good gravel pit to go to, lots of space, lots of targets of opportunity, and pretty easy to get to as long as the snow doesn't fall. :)

Anyone interested? WE could have a BBQ at my place afterwards (I'm close by).

I'm interested (as long as it's not on a Sunday). Are you the Jamz on NEShooters?

Can I transport handguns to Maine from Mass? I have an unrestricted MA LTC but not a Maine LTC.

jamz
August 29, 2006, 07:47 PM
Same jamz as on NEShooters, yeah- I'm bummed I messed the chance to blow up that car with a machine gun. :( So I'll make it up by having a multi-site gathering of my own. :)

I was going to post it in NES once I settle on a date.

No problems bringing stuff from MA, we like guns up here. :D

jamz-

I am here to answer your prayers. I have a (legal) machine gun, and lots of Tannerite.

You tell me when the shoot is and I will be there with both, and a whole bunch of other toys.

No joke.

Now this sounds like a good reason for me to get off my posterior and finally join this group. That is of course if you don't mind hanging out with a half crippled 30something with guns.:D

I'd like to make it up there for something like that for sure.

What caliber, so we can supply the ammo? :D

.45 ACP would be the caliber. Winchester white box would be the best choice. Wish I could tell you I had a Thompson or a Grease Gun but it is only a Reising. Still fun though!

Something to think about, gezzer has offered to come with a few (!!! :D ) subguns and I would be bringing one as well. I was also hoping to bring some Tannerite. Will the pit owner be open to this?

Tannerite booms and automatic weapons fire can attract A LOT of attention in a hurry.

If the range owner is cool with it then a call to the local P.D. a couple of days before the shoot can really help to alleviate any ugly interruptions.

Just giving some insight from previous shoots I have been to.

I'm in. I just moved to Rochester, NH and I'm looking for a place to shoot. Might as well go to Maine as it's so close.

I don't have any NFA toys, yet, but I'll bring what I can.

jamz
September 6, 2006, 06:19 PM
Exposure, that's a fine idea. Last shoot out there they had some full auto weapons and tannerite, the cops showed up to see what all the noise was about, and they said "Have fun, be safe!" and left.

Good call to phone them in advance (and invite them too! :D )

I don't know whe owns the pit, but due to the lack of reaction a few weeks ago I don't think it would be a problem.

One thing I like to do when I'm there is take a small bag and carry some trash out- if everyone could fill up a shopping bag of (non-targetworthy) plastic to carry out in addition to what they bring in, that would be great.

Sounds like you are ready then!

Let me know when you want to do this. The last organized shoot I attended was when I lived in Charlotte, NC and I met up with a fine bunch of folks from sksboards.com, I am anxious to do it again!

Is there anything I can do to help out? Want me to bring my gas grill? I am a self proclaimed gas grill genious! Seriously, I can cook a pretty mean burger for everyone should they be interested!

How does OCt 7 work for everyone? It's a saturday.

Exposure, if this gets to be too big I won't be able to afford food for everyone, etc so I might ask people to bring stuff. :)

Your grill would be great! I'm only a mediocre griller myself, so the more qualified help, the better!

Where do you shoot in RI? Do you shoot at the warwick police range, AFS, or Sayles Hill? I went to school in Prov and really liked it up there. now I am banished to the peoples republik of new jersey.

Egads, so it is. I don't want to leave it until too late, weather being what it is up here, and I am jammed up for most all of september. Hmmm... well, the NES guys just got done with a shoot in Standish, maybe they don't want to go back just yet! :p

This is going to be in Standish, ME. I think the zip code is 04084.

Can't commit to anything since it's all dependand on the wife's shedule but with enuff notice she can get that altered (the perks of mgmt). standish is but a short distance away so given the availability, I'll proberly show. Got pretty poor grilling skills though sorry. Can possibly coerce the Mrs to whip something up though if'n I can attend.

So is it on for OCT 7th or not? Do you guys in Maine have enough time to go to both shoots? Also does anyone have a target stand?

No target stand but I do have a couple of steel spinner targets for hand guns that I will try to bring.

jamz

OCT 7 it is.

Don't want to leave it for later than that, or the BBQ might be a might- chilly.

it will be in Standish, ME in the gravel pit off Middle road- I'm thinking we can meet up at the Hannaford Supermarket on Rt 25 which is only a few miles from the pit.

If everyone could bring targets, that would be great- biodegradable stuff is good, or at least stuff that is easy to carry out. I feel the need to destroy some computer equipment, so I'll bring that, I have an old real estate sign, which works well as a target holder, and I'll be bringing many many apples to blow up.

I'd like to leave the place slightly cleaner than we found it, so let's make sure that whatever we bring in, we bring out, target-wise. I'll bring some small shopping bags to fill up with other people's junk too - I like to take away the plastics and non-biodegradables.

Count me in for sure!

What time should we meet up?

I am about 130 miles or so away so it's kind of a hike for me.

Subguns and Tannerite are definitely okay?

Let me know, and let me know if there is anything else I can do to help out with the organization!

excellent!

This will give me a chance to try those ak tracer rounds.

Also I have a couple boxes of .32acp .380 30-30, 30-06. 7.62x54 that I'll share/give away becuase I dont have the guns they fit.

I'm out. nfortunately I'll be some 400+ miles north of there bird hunting along the Canadian border. Maybe next time.

As another bit of interest to us Maine folks...

I don't personally know this person but a few shooters at a recent club shoot know him I guess and pased a flyer about an upcoming shoot being held to help him out. go to www.EricsHope.com for the scoop

Eric's Big Bang! Rifle pistol and machine gun shoot (using World War II machine guns). Cost: $5–$30. Age limit: 16 and under accompanied by adult. Time: 9-3pm at the Kennebunk Fish & Game Club. On the Branch road. For more info, call Jon at (207) 415-6115. Examples: M-1 Carbine, Sten submachine gun, AK-47 & other military rifles and pistols.

I know some of you guys from MA don't get full auto often if at all so here's a chance to do it and halp a guy out.

Exposure, I'm sure subguns and tannerite will be fine. :)

Let's meet at 10AM saturday Oct 7th at the hannaford's parking lot- Toward the road and away from the store so we can find each other.

I figure we'll have fun shooting till midafternoon or so, and then head up for burgers and beers and such, then I'll kick everyone out in time to put the kids to bed. :)

gezzer-

I think you still have time to do it. The new NFA people in West Virginia are super fast. Some guys are reporting form 4 times as short as 9 days!

You could give them a call and see if they could expedite the approval for you.

They are very professional and helpful, maybe you could work something out.

So are we a definite go for this weekend?

My Tannerite is dead. :( I tried two bottles last weekend and both failed to detonate. I sent an e-mail to Tannerite.com and they said my stuff has exceeded its shelf life. They are sending replacements (now that's customer service!) but they won't be here in time. My subgun is good to go however! Sadly I only have one 12 round mag so trigger time will be, ummmm, short! But hey, loading mags builds character.

Hope all is still cool for this weekend.

We are on like Donkey Kong!

The only change in plans is that due to lots of stuff going on at home I won't be able to host a BBQ there. :( But we are good to go for shooting at the pit, and there are a few places to eat around town if anyone wants to go out for a bite afterward. :)

So the plan is to meet at the Hannaford parking lot in Standish on Rt 25 between 10AM and 10:25. We will depart for the gravel pit at 10:30. I'll be in a greenish Mazda B3000 pickup (looks like a ford ranger). I'll park near the road side of the parking lot, away from the other cars at the store.

I've left a message with the sherrif's dept that we will be making a ton of noise at the pit :D and they are welcome to join if they want to.

Hannafords info:

Hannaford Supermarket and Pharmacy
111 Ossipee Trail
Standish, ME 04084

From rt 95, north or south, take a rt 25 exit and go west. You will go through Westbrook, Gorham, then Standish. The hannafords is right after you get into Standish, on the left, at the first stoplight.

Those coming from the west better mapquest it due to all the secondary roads ;)

the actual gravel pit is west of the hannafords- leaving the parking lot, go left (West on 25) to the light at the intersection of rt 35 (about .25 mile)

Go straightish through this intersection, onto Oak Hill Road (Don't follow rt 25 which bears left).

Follow Oak Hill rd a bit over two miles until Middle road on the left (dirt road). Turn onto middle road. Follow Middle Road for .75 mile or so until you come to an intersection- take a Right through the gates and there is the pit- drive down till you see the cars. :) Low ground clearance cars might have trouble with middle road so don't go there in your porsche or viper!

My cell is 781.640.3778 if anyone needs it. See you guys tomorrow! :D

I have a two handed pidgeon thrower I will bring with me. Sadly I have absolutely NO targets of any sort to bring with me. :o

I am going to stop on the way and buy a few hundred rounds of .45 to feed the Reising.

I will be driving an 05 GMC Extended Cab Z71 that is dark gray. And I go by P.J.

Hey fanof357-

Did you order up your M1A yet? :D

If you guys can believe it my Garand was still warm to the touch when I got home, 3 hours later! I guess she digested a fair amount of ammo yesterday!

Everywhere I go the "sniper" SKS and Garand are always the favorites for all shooters involved. I know I sure do like 'em!
