Thanks to Dean Spier for this information. It seems that Glock/ATK has indeed redesigned the brass to increase strength.

Honestly, I cannot see any need or niche for this cartridge that is not already filled. Ditto the .357 Sig, and the 480 Ruger, and the .500 S&W Magnum. If you can't find a decent SD load in 9mm, .40 S&W, 10mm, or .45 ACP, you ain't trying very hard.

Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this page with it's new up-to-date info. Thanks for the link! :D

As the 37 gets closer & closer to release they'll try to build interest & demand. GAP?

I always thought the .45 Gaston would be appropriate since it has more to do with ego than need.

Whether you like the cartridge or Glock or not, I think it's fair to say the niche of this cartridge is: people who want to shoot a .45 caliber bullet at almost .45ACP velocities out of a 9mm/.40-size pistol.

So where's the .45 Old Navy?

Zak,
I thought the early specs on .45 Glock showed it to produce higher velocities than standard pressure .45 ACP?

Alright. I have appointed myself as the voice of reason here. I hope none of the more senior members are insulted.

We live in a free country. With, even more significantly, a free enterprise economy. So if Gaston Glock wants to introduce a new handgun round, that's his prerogative. If some of you don't like the idea you also have the freedom not to buy it.

As someone pointed out in another thread on this subject, the modified 10mm was considered a waste of time and energy by some when it first came out. But how many of you carry a pistol chambered in .40S&W now? Sometimes the "silly ideas" are the ones that stick around. Bottom line, if it is the ego trip that some people think it is and it really is unnecessary the aforementioned free market will relegate it to the dust heap of history.

In my personal opinion there is a niche for a ".45" Glock in the slimmer dimensions of the 9mm/.40 frames. I'd love to see the new .45GAP in a compact frame. But that's just my opinion. You have the right to have your own. But I think we are above "Ol' Gaston must be getting pretty depressed if he needs to invent a whole new cartridge with his name on it to boost his self esteem" cracks. Let's sit back and see what happens.

"S&W has one named after it. Sig has one named after it. I want one name after me!"

There's a whole lot more to being a success in the market-place than just meeting need. Unfortunately, in this day through good marketing, it is possible to create a demand where none is justified.

Will Glock be able to do it? Who know? I will give him a whole lot higher marks in marketing than weapon design, so maybe. Give a few G37s to a couple of major LEAs, pay a few gunwriters to gaga over it, give Jan Libourel some stock, get S&M to give it 95% OSS (based on the "Fuller Index and ten select shootings, of course), and it just might be a commercial success. Sig was certainly able to pull it off.

I have a nice little anvil and sledgehammer ready and waiting for any .45GAP brass that I sort out from my bulk .45ACP brass purchases in the future. That will be my economic commentary on the round in the land of the free.

Gaston should have stopped while he was ahead :banghead:

I would rather Glock devote their energies to making a carbine like Ruger did. I'd buy a .40 Glock carbine in an instant
Yeah--I know--If I'm going to carry a rifle's weight, I should get a rifle's power. Well, I have lots of rifles. This would be a fun popgun. The exception to my rule. ;)

The 357 sig offers people that like magnum revolver performance the chance to get it in an Auto. Its also more inherrently accurate than the 40 sw its strongest competator.

So does 10mm, but even more so. That alone didn't make it popular. Loaded up to "magnum" power, people complained about recoil, and thus we have the .40 S&W. *shrug*

The 10mm has a loyal following of fans. I don't think it will die off any more than it has. The 357 sig has gotten a lot of leo agencies on all levels adopting it. So it seems its futer is locked in as well. Will it replace the 40sw probably not. But I think it has more growing to do. I don't see it declining.

If you drive a 45acp any slower you won't need tracers...you will be able to watch the bullet in flight to the target. Be careful the enemy will have time to duck! :neener:

It's amazing. Seems like some clown is trying to hijack a thread about the .45 Gaston into a .40 S&W versus a 357 Sig fight. We need a smilie for troll.

He must feel threatened already. Will the gullible have a new "favourite?" Will we be forced into enduring unending threads of the faithful magnifying non-existent advantages into the "Hammer of Thor?" --Countless threads trying to "prove" it is better than something than _________ (fill the blank) forget the facts just bring on the humus. --More meaningless stories about shaking jello and broken plates (some folks just don't understand the difference between a 40 pound block of gelatin and an 80 pound block of geletin). Lay on a new server and a bigger hard disks. Gaston, what have you done to us?

Hmmmm. Not unlike the 45Schofield. A weaker cartridge for a particular design that some like.:scrutiny:
