If I'm planning on purchasing one of the pistols out of the catalog, how should I proceed?

Just make sure it actually still exists. The catolog is quarterly, and things get sold. Also, some have reported that the "condition" listed was not exactly
the condition they received, extra handpicking charge or not.

Find a local FFL who is willing to conduct the transfer without ripping you off. Get his dealer information, which you can give to CDNN. They typically have a list of FFLs they deal with in your area anyway.

Call CDNN up, order the pistol, pay CDNN and they will send it to the FFL. You can call the FFL to see when it arrives, then go do the paper work like you would with any other firearm purchase, pay the FFL whatever fee he charges to broker the deal, and you're done. I paid $35 to the dealer, which is higher than some, but better than the $50 a few others quoted.

Just have your FFL fax them a copy of the license, then call them up and buy what you want, they'll ship to the FFL you request.

To comparison-shop for FFL fees, go to www.gunsamerica.com and use their "FFL Finder". Some other auction websites have this free service too; it lists FFLs in your area and what they charge for transfers.

$25 is considered standard, lowest I've ever gotten is $5-10.

Oh, and I learned this one the hard way: CDNN will not process your order (or "hold" a pistol for you) until they have a copy of the intended FFL. If you're in a rush to get a pistol, either pick an FFL who's already on-file w/ CDNN, or else have your dealer fax a copy of his FFL right to them. Faxing didn't used to be acceptable, but the rules changed and now faxes are kosher.

After you get your order processed, come back and let us know what pistol got you so excited!

Make sure you specify to CDNN to list you as the purchaser on the invoice.

If they list the receiving FFL as the purchaser, you will have to pay sales tax to the dealer. If you are listed as the purchaser, the dealer is there just to do the transfer and won't have to collect tax from you. (At least that's how it is for NC.)

CDNN refused to list me as the purchaser on the invoice and I had to pay sales tax to my dealer in IL. Thats just one of the many many reasons I won't ever buy from CDNN again.

The FFL finder on gunsamerica is not up to date, it lists two dealers in the Palouse area that no longer exist...or at least I've never been able to get a hold of them.

1. GunBroker has a very good FFL finder.
2. A scanned/emailed FFL is also legal now, and very convenient.
