i just got my new 50bmg press from RCBS. i'll save my initial impressions until their helpdesk gets a chance to set me straight. but i do have a question some of you might know the answer to:
what is that groove/channel down the extreme left side of the base of the press? i can't figure out why it's there. it's not mentioned in the manual. there are no pictures of anyone doing anythign with it.

It`s not the primer channel in the ram you`re looking at is it? The spent primer falls through the shellholder and through a "channel" in the ram until it enters the catch tray.

no, the base plate. i.e. the flat thing you bolt to the bench.
edit: i searched rcbs.com and images.google.com for a picture, but they all use the same stinkin picture that shows the RIGHT side of the press.

Not sure exactly, but since the 50BMG press is just an ammomaster converted for the long 50 ammo, I think that the slot along the left side of the base is for the reloading bins you see attached to some presses that hold either loaded ammo or bullets. I think the plastic bins have a lip at the top that goes down in the slot you mentioned holding the bins to the press. JUST GUESSING though.
