I think I once read there was a 9mm Smith pistol that had 20rd flush fit mags. Was it any good? It would mostly be used for target and woods carry, along with the other guns I just can't leave at home. And are the pre-bans easy to find and cheap? Any help is appreciated.

Never heard of a S&W 9mm w/ a 20 rd. flush mag. But I've only been shooting since the 60's and have never owned a S&W in 9mm. Read a lot about the 39, the 59, etc. but most had (I think) 15 rd. max. Someone who owns one correct me where its needed.
My Glock 17 has a couple of pre-ban magazines w/ the +2 baseplate, its obviously NOT flush fitting, heavy as all getout with 17+2+1 in the chamber and I can't really imagine needing 20 rds. for woods walking or carrying anything that heavy in a 9mm while doing so. A Model 29 or 25 loaded up for bear, where required, is another thing... heavy but reassuring.
Pre-ban mags cheap?
After the ban was enacted I had to decide if I should take the guns out of the safe and put all the hi-caps in there due to the dollar value of the darned things :D ... not cheap.
Happy hunting

None that I can think of off the top of my head.

Well, the closest would have been the Sigmas.
As originally designed, they had 17-round magazines.
Overall, however, a thoroughly uninspired, and uninspiring, handgun.

When S&W came out with the 2nd generation of nines (with three digit model numbers), they marketed a factory 20-rd. mag. for both the full sized and compact versions of their double-stacks, the only difference being the placement of the over-travel stop to prevent over-insertion. Both hang out of the mag well, of course, so they aren't flush fit. I have one for my M669 and it works perfectly (unlike most of after-market manufacture).
