Well my best friend bought a Savage MkII .22 yesterday and we are taking it out tommorrow(range report comming soon). It has a heavy trigger, but it breaks very clean. He put a Tasco 3x9 on it and a bipod.

Well my friend starts to get a big head about his new rifle and states " I can beat you and your Savage with my Savage!" So in the morning: 100 yards, my Savage 10FP .308 topped with a Leupold Mk4 3x9 vs my friend and his Savage MkII .22 topped with a Tasco 3x9.

The only stipulation is that I have to use PMC 147grn FMJs instead of my babies favorite 150grn Win Ballistic Silvertip.

Well, I just hope I dont lose......that would be embarrasing.:o

I've been offering up this challenge for over year, with no takers (it's primarily geared towards all those guys that recommend 10/22s for everything).
But its a true "apples-to-apples" (.22 vs .22) comparison.
Here's the rules:

$1000 bet (and some of my friends may want "side bets" for additional $)

Gun + scope cannot cost more than $225, gun TOTALLY unmodified factory configuration. Any scope as long as you stay within the price guideline.

Best 3 of 5 10 shot groups count: @ 50 yards. any available rest. Unlimited # of sighters, but only group size matters.

Any ammo, including "match" ammo.

I'll be shooting a bone stock Marlin Model 60 (with about 5000 rounds through it) currently topped witha $40 Tasco Pronghorn (although I'm looking at "cheap" scopes now, may upgrade.). The gun was given to me used, by a friend before he died, but for these purposes we'll assume a price of $125, as that seems to be the going rate for that gun.

See if your buddy will go for THAT, it'll definitely knock him down a peg.
