Was dove hunting with a friend. He showed me a ported M29 he picked up at an estate sale, excellent shape, about 6" barrel, and the trigger had been worked on. WOW, that thing was smooth in DA and crisp in SA!:what: He bought this thing for $250. Why, oh why can't I ever find deals like this? :banghead: He's also got an accurized Gold Cup he bought for the same money. I barely missed that one, belonged to a mutual friend. :banghead:

Sure, it cost him a mutual friend to find such a good deal, but at least he knew what was in the collection
Good deal, I guess

Good deals happen. You have to be aware, track down any leads, and have cash in hand ready to buy.
A forum member emailed me once because he knew I liked Model 27 S&Ws. A local pawn shop had one for $299 and he thought of me. Nice fella, there. Turned out to be a nice 1959 5" nickel M27.
I was looking at S&W .38s on a gunshow table. Dealer asks if I would be interested in an old S&W .38? Why, yes I would. Pulls out a 4" post-war Heavy Duty and says give me $195 for it. So I did. He paid the sales tax. What a guy.
Dealer put a Model 14 on GunBroker last year. Well worn but mechanically perfect. Started it at $100 and I got it with one bid.
Keep looking.

I did fall into one deal. My house got robbed, they found three of my handguns, two being cheap .22s and one being a stainless Ruger Old Army cap and ball, not a cheap gun on a working man's budget. I was runnin' around looking at guns at gun shops and pawn shops hoping to spot one of 'em when I found a blued Ruger Old Army for 97 bucks. :what: I asked the proprietor if it was a mis-print. He says no, he's getting out of black powder and just wants to get rid of it. It shoots as good as my old one, but I miss the easy stainless clean-up. I would probably not have seen that deal if I'd not been ripped off. I'd have bought it even if I had 2 dozen Old Armies, though. :D
That M29 my friend has, though, mmmm, I just can't imagine finding a bargain like that. Amazing. I definitely need to get out more.
