Here's some info.
I am interested. One of a few polymer service pistols with exposed hammer (my preference), aside from the HK USPc and the SigPro.
It looks more svelt than the HK, and smaller than the SigPro too. Manufacturer is one of the leading arms maker of the world. Cocked and locked capability.
I'd get one. And I'd get it over the Springfield XD9.

I have been looking at that picture for several months. I would like to see one in person. I am wondering what mags it takes? It is a gun that could fill a need in my life. Knowing FN I know it is a quality piece.

Wonder what the trigger's like?
FN's last plastic wunderpistole had swell ergos, but a heinous trigger... :uhoh:

Yes the trigger is the question based on FN's history with plastic. The stats say 10lbs. in D/A and a 3.75 S/A which sounds fine on paper.

Also, the question is capacity. If it takes unique/rare mags, you will likely have a very large 10-rnd 9mm. I mean, I love the 9mm cartridge, but it seems less than efficient.
Unless of course the silly mag limit goes bye bye...

it has a similar resemblance like my USP. I'd like to see this in the .40S&W version.

The pistol looks nice but what I really liked was the M249Para. :D

Ive played with a couple in person but havent shot them.
The grip and size is very very nice....the trigger is better than nice. Absolutely great....now only if they came with a freaking safety.....Shoot well

It looks like there is a single action version (http://www.fnherstal.com/html/Index.htm). I suspect that FNH USA is not importing it.

I'm very interested, not that I need another 9mm though.

At this point in my preferences, I'd probably try their all steel FN HP DA first, but this looks like a nice effort.
A bit of a quandry, though. There is a one picture on the FNP9 page that shows the back end right side of a pistol with a red dot exposed BELOW the safety lever. Since the other pictures show no dot at all (safetyless decocker model) and the safety option for the DA/SA is up, is the red dot depicting a DOWN for safe position on the SA Only version?
Thoughts?

The FNP is what I am working on.
The FNP and Browning Pro guns are manufactured (100%) in the USA. All components are made in the US, all assembly is done in the US, and the gun was designed completely in the US.
The FNP-9 is on the market and available. Call FNH USA to find distributors.
The FNP-9 is a DA/SA. It does not currently have a safety, but a safety (from the Browing Pro-9) is an easy retrofit. As soon as the Browning is available (any month now, pending testing), the safety should be an option on the FNP, but who knows what goes through the heads of the marketing guys? :-)
The Browning Pro-9 is the same gun, but with a stainless slide, and a USP style safety/decocking lever.
Handy, the picture you are looking at is a prototype of another variant that will not be produced. Some european countries have a requirement for a safety that automatically engages when the pistol is decocked. The is not currently an SA model. Once we get the current pile of variants off of our laps, we will try to get funding from Herstal to design the SAO. (I already have most of the parts designed on my computer, but I don't have a budget :-( )

Hello Owen,
Sorry to change direction, but, is FN's HPDAc going to be made in .40 cal.? I saw it mentioned on the FN web site.
I have the 9mm which I think is a fine little carry gun. I noticed they ( 9mm HPDAc) were being "dumped" on the market by CDNN and was fearful it was being discontinued. And if so what about spare parts?
Thanks,
Flinch

flinch,
I haven't heard anything about the HPDAc. As far as I know they are going strong.

This new FN looks pretty good. But I don' t think I'd be in the market for a full sized 9mm limited to only 10 rounds.
I like my Beretta not just because it's a high quality firearm... but because depending on which mag I slap in there, I have the choice between 15, 18, or 20 rounds.
*SIGH*
I PRAY the AWB fades into history.
FN has several handguns I would like to get... scratch that... FN has a lot of guns I would like to get.

Owen,
Can you disclose any information regarding torture test on the FNP-9 & Pro-9, i.e. +p+, and number of rounds tested w/o any significant wears & failures. Ruger P95s have been tested at Ruger's facility w/ 20K of +p+ ammo w/o significant wear, but they don't have accesory rails...
I am so interested in the FNP-9 & Pro-9, any testing data would be greatly appreciated. ;)

It looks like a car crash between a S&W, 1911, Sig, and FN. :barf:

Eh, as long as it well built, fit, works, and shoots well, I don't really care what it looks like, I'd be willing to give it a try.

I went to the armorer course on it last a while back. The trigger reset still had some bugs in it, so it sounds like they worked them out. Not a bad pistol, you can change the backstrap and it's a cinch to strip and fix.
Now, add an inch of barrel and chamber it in .45, then we'll talk.

I tried my buddy's FNP9 today. It rocks! The DA/SA are miles ahead of the USPs I've tried, accuracy is right up there with SIG, and it's been absolutely reliable, and it fits my hands a lot better than Glocks. I wouldn't hesitate to get a FNP9 is you're looking for a polymer frame pistol with traditional DA/SA mechanism.

jeez, back from the dead!
OH, to the guy who said FN's last plastic wunderpistole had swell ergos, but a heinous trigger...
I'd like to find a pistol with a better DAO trigger that is as safe as FN's design. The Forty-Nine is/was an excellent DAO firearm and I carry mine on a daily basis.
Since the death of the AWB, I have managed to secure two 14 round magazines for it as well. 14 rounds of .40 in a lightweight, fullsize, safe DAO pistol is a comforting thing on a trip through bad neighborhoods.
Longer sight radius than a CZ75 or Hi-Power.
And the DAO trigger isn't that bad. Mine measured out at a consistent 10lb pull that never does anything funky. You pull it and it goes bang. Smooth enough with a good break.
