Gentlemen,
We know that 45 man hours were used in building 1 M1 Garand Rifle. This file shows us the number of gages, fixtures, special tools, etc.,etc. needed to build just one M1 Garand Rifle. Just think if a company today wanted to build to military spec.'s M1 Garand Rifle.

This is just some data about Ordnance rebuilding AFTER WW2.
Springfield Armory info on rebuilding of M1 Garands. Yes other weapons are listed like Carbines, Bayonets, op-rods and even Model 1903’s. The file below will give you some idea of what was going on at SA. These rifles were getting ready to become part of the “Long Term Storage Project” at SA.
The overhaul, repair and modification of major items took place throughout the period, a large overhaul program being undertaken in fiscal year 1947. Beginning in January 1949 the rebuild of weapons was accelerated and continued through June 1951. Some of the major items rebuilt during the period were as follows:
FY 1946
Rifle, U.S. Caliber .30 M1 54,537
FY 1947
Rifle, U.S. Caliber .30 M1 43,950
FY 1948
Rifle, U.S. Caliber .30 M1 42,477
Jan 1949 – June 1951
Rifle, U.S. Caliber .30 M1 263,411
