Hello everyone,

I'm a new member and I just moved to Shelby Township Michigan from Florida. Are there any public gun ranges in my area. I have been here 4 months and have not found a place to shoot and it is driving me crazy. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I live on the other side of the State by Lake Michigan, but I use to live in Troy which is kind of close to you. Your best bet is to find and join a gun/shooting "sportmans club" that has pistol and rifle ranges. I think the Detroit Sportmans Congress is located in Utica. You will have to probably pay yearly dues between $100 - $200.
The State of Michigan has some ranges operated by the Dept. of Natural Resources. I haven't shot at one in a long time, way too many rules like single load on the rifle range and they had limited days and hours of operation.
Also check out www.MUCC.org They will list a lot of sportman's clubs.

At my club, I pay $100 a year and get the combination to the lock on the gate. I can shoot whenever and as often as I want from sun up to sun down and there are no other fees.

You actually live quite close to The Firing Line in Canton. Its a private indoor range but they rent and have reasonable fees.

Otherwise you'll have to drive further west. Look up the Dept of Natural Resources. There's a list of state operate ranges. I'm in Ann Arbor and there's a nice one in Sharonville about half an hour from here.

Actually, you're nowhere near the Firing Line. Canton is way south and west of Shelby. The nearest club to Shelby is the D.S.C. as posted above. I belonged there from '93-'95, pretty nice group, at least back then. The nearest indoor commercial place is Double Action on Dequindre between (iirc)13 mile and 14 mile rds. They have a 50 yd. as well as a 25 yd. range.

I shoot quite frequently at Target Sports in Royal Oak. They are good people.
