I used to live in North Beach SF,lots of bars, hookers
gang bangers and drunks from around the world.
I've had to use 2 cans of the grizzly bear spray
(you know the big foggers)& a bunch of LEO
size pepper sprays over the course of a few months.
I have noticed that the crackheads seem to recover
quickly & the drunk tourist (like the ones who
think it's ok to urinate on my motorcycle) take longer to
recover.
I learned to be absolutely aware of which way
the wind is blowing.
I've had the cops question me twice, witnesses
claimed I attacked a guy,not realizing I had given
him plenty of warning.
Another time they were not sure it was legal for me to
carry(pepper spray) but I was polite,respectfull &
firm & they decided to resume patrolling Broadway.
I discovered that yelling "leave me alone" "get away from me"
as I'm spraying works like a charm.
There was a crackhead who stood under my window
till 4am for a couple of months making a racket,
the police would not move him and & (wink wink nudge nudge)
said I would have to deal with him my self.
It took 3 weeks of nightly confrontations for him to get the message. Pavlovs dogs were smarter then this guy!
Yelling "get away from me" worked great, witnesses allways
told the cops I was on the defensive, even though to get this guy
to get away from my window,I had to go offensive...
I moved away from North Beach a year & a half & have not had to spray anyone since then.
I allways carry a big folder and spray when I'm not at work.
at work I carry a Glock 22,I hope someday ccw will legal in SF...

Welcome to THR, gunsmith!

I hope someday ccw will legal in SF... HA!
Sorry, I had to get that out... (Remembering what I had to go through to get a permit to purchase in Monterey--well, Seaside.)

Mind if I quote your experiances in Refuse To Be A Victim classes? I especially like that you emphasize being obviously on the defensive, even when demonstrating that sometimes "the best defense is a good, etc..."

Ya, I used to live in SF. Never gassed anybody, but pulled a knife once on some fool with a large wrench .

I talked to a guy who worked security at the Carl's Jr. burger joint near the Powell St. cable car turnaround. Dude was going through a large can of OC a *month*.

:D Hey, I grew up in Detroit, and there's a REASON why when I was stationed in the Monterey Bay area and ventured off the Presidio or Fort Ord I spent most of my time in Monterey, Carmel, or Santa Cruz. ("Sir, can I get my .45 out of the arms room, I have a date in Seaside tonight...?")
