I saw this pic lately, and it got me to wondering---what would be the work required for such a weapon? It's an m14 barrel & gas system on an M1 receiver. Since I was contemplating rebarring my M1 (dunno if i'm going to pick .308 or .30-06 for that, though), I was wondering what the pros/cons of a custom-ish job like this could be.

That looks more like an M14 with an M1 trigger group to me

No, it doesn't have a stripper clip guide on the reciever like an M14 does.

That's very cool. Hoping someone else has some info on it.

I came across said pic while online researching M1 Garand rebarreling jobs. Thought it was interesting enough to warrent an inquiry of the bright minds of THR.

I had a Beretta BM-59 it was a mix of the M14 and M1 with the M14 action and the M1 barrel. It was in .308 too.

Thing is, instead of M14 action and M1 barrel, that's an M1 action with an M14 barrel--doesn't take mags (in fact, it can't). Any ideas on how it'd shoot?

Wow. that is interesting.

Would the M14 Gas system allow heavy bullets and slow powders without damage?

I'm off to daydream for a few hours...
