I just added this to my collection:

Does anybody carry a GP100? If so, how do you carry it? I would prefer IWB, but have not found a suitable holster yet. Recommendations?

Greeting's drod-

I don't even own a Ruger GP-100; but a lot depends on
your statue? A tall, slender type might conceal the Ruger
by simply carrying "Mexican" style; whereas a over-weight
person most likely would require some type of belt
holster, with a concealment garment! :uhoh:

Myself, being a bit over-weight I perfer semi-auto's; for
that flat, comfortable feeling. However, I have been known
to carry a few revolver's this way as well. Mainly small
S&W J-frame and Colt D-frame .38 Special's.:D

Best Wishes,

I carry a GP100 3" in a Don Hume IWB holster. Best holster I have every had for this particular revolver. Very comfortable.

I'm eagerly awaiting my transfer to a more gun-friednly jurisdiction. I'll be carrying a similar sized wheel IWB. My vote is going for the Tucker Texas Heritage. When i can scrape together some more dough, then it'll be a Del Fatti ISP.

First thing you do is swap grips.

GP100s with fixed sights come with a smaller factory grip. Like so:

This smaller one is closer to SP101 size and will fit your gun. The parts needed to swap over are available at Lett grips, http://www.lettgrips.com/ for about $40 (the rubber core and the wood or micarta inserts are two different parts). Lett is the supplier to Ruger. You could also go with some other aftermarket parts, I think Eagle has a variant of the "Secret Service" concealed carry type for the GP100.

Second, you get a GOOD IWB holster. One that places the belt connections (J-hooks are best) *offset* from the cylinder. If the clip is stacked on top of the cylinder as with too many cheapos, the bulk at that "high point" is too much. Tucker and a few others have figured this out, as have I...if you're local to the SF Bay Area I do personally fitted IWB rigs in Kydex.

Don Hume makes quality leather. I use his Double 9 model to carry my 4" N-frame .

I carry a 4" GP-100 in a Fist pancake holster, with no problems.

H715-M is the Don Hume part number for the IWB holster that I currently use for my GP100. I like the IWB clip holster because I sometimes don't wear a belt and the clip holds everything in place.
