I bought a smith&wesson mod 14-1 a few weeks ago, its a 4 inch with a partridge front sight, the gun is stamped (afpg) on the frame i latter found out this stands for air force pemium grade shipped the the air force shooting team in the early 60s,i have sent off for a factory letter, but that still wont tell me what the guns worth, not even sure i want to sell it, but i would like to know, thanks for any help you can give me*csa*;)

Box, papers and tools, if any were original, matter in figuring the price. Ask on the S&W forum and you'll get a bunch of responses. 14's don't last long on there.

To get the value of the revolver you also need to know it's condition (mechanical and cosmetic), if it's been refinished, if it's all original (including sights and stocks), whether or not it's been modified, and if the original box, tools, and paperwork is present.

i would say 85 to 90 % it was shipped to the air force shooting team , i dont think they keep boxs , one of the requirments for this gun to be accepted was that it that shoot 1o shot groups from a machine rest at 50 yards in 1.5 inches, they bought ammo by the lots after testing it, i got this info from a article by charles e petty in the american rifleman in jan 1985 there where aslo used 1911 45 acps , i think its a interesting gun with some neat history, i guess it will be hard to put a value on it as so few where stamped afpg , *csa*

I don't know if this helps or not, but I read on another forum about a gun exactly like yours. A model 14-1, with a 4" barrel and has the afpg stamping. He also read up on his gun, and found very similar info that you did. He mentioned an article in American Rifleman, dated Jan 1985, and written by Charles E. Petty. He bought his gun for $300, and everyone else on that thread thought that was a great bargain... hope this helps somewhat.

If you ever decide to sell that, let me know... I'm only one state over (georgia).

Unless you find a collector looking for specific examples like yours and would pay a premium it most likely would only sell as a shooter in the $250 to $300 price range.

thats with any thing i guess, its only worth what some one is willing to pay for it , i think it was $300 well spent*csa*
