I have been looking at a few rifles for hunting season. I hunt deer near the Iowa border most of my shots are around 65-150 yards.
I am looking at the
Benelli R1 30-06
Tikka T3 Tactical Rifles 308
Kimber 8400 classic 300 win mag
i dont know what to buy?

If you are just going after deer and don't reload, the 300 winmag is a bit much. Either the 308 or 3006 will do the job nicely. Iowa is shotgun only (or used to be). It is interesting that Missouri allows rifle. But since that area is fairly hilly, if my memory is correct, you can't shoot very far without running into a hill.

Get the Benelli. The '06 is the most versitile and ubiquitous rifle cartridge there is. The 300 is too much. Nothing wrong with a .308, but of you choices how "tactical" do you need to be for deer.

I'd say the '06 or the .308. both are excellent deer rounds. 300 win mag is more than you need as others have said. It does have the ability to hunt other, bigger game in the future if you are so inclined, however.

The win mag might be a bit much, but would be fun to shoot and you can reach out more than you already do. But, the other two would be more appropriate for your application. That said, I'd go w/ the Tikka

Deer at <150 yards?
.243 Win.
6mm Rem.
.257 Roberts
.25-06 Rem.
.260 Rem.
6.5x55mm Swede
.270 Win.
7mm-08 Rem.
7x57mm Mauser
.300 Savage
.308 Win.
.30-06 and .300 WM are more than you need for deer-size game at such close ranges. Even the .280 would be mild overkill.

Go with the Tikka. It is a very handy rifle. You will make up in accuracy what you may loose in power.
