I'm wondering what people think of this gun. I'm also wondering, does the CZ 75B magazines work in the gun? It is a great price and if I get it, will also order a Jack Ash Custom package for it. Thanks!

Great gun. Originally designed from PO1 frames and CZ40 uppers, they caught on big when J&G sold them for $299. Still cheaper than many high quality firearms, CZ decided to make them a staple of the line.

I'm guessing that since the P01 accepts CZ-75 mags, that the 40P does, too?

Should, altho the P01 and PCR use the CZ75B Compact grip frame (and thus shorter mags) than the full size CZ75B and CZ75B SemiCompact.

What *is* the deal on these 40Ps? Somewhere I read that they have been discontinued and that they don't make magazines for them anymore. Also, they're usually listed at about $100 cheaper than comparable firearms.

Of course, being me, I'm interested in the gun's lines. Is it a 'safe' buy?

Mine works fine. It has a 2006 production stamp on the slide..sooo..guess they still make 'em.

The 40P is a great pistol. Before you order anything from Jack Ash check www.czshooters.com and www.czforum.com. It looks like he is having delivery "problems" and also communication "problems" with the people who have sent him money. Just a heads up.

I like both my 40B and 40P. The P uses the CZ-75 Compact mags. The normal mags fit mine but portrude from the bottom of the butt.

rcellis, I think you're thinking of the CZ-40B.
It had a look and shape similar to the 1911 and was indeed discontinued.

The 40P is still in production.

Thanks. That straightens things out for me.

they were a limited production. CZ had some slides left over from the Colt/CZ40B thing. They put them together with a P01 frame (which they also have plenty of), and Voila! the CZ40P. I saw them as cheap as 269.99. They were supposed to be limited production, but they keep showing up so... go figure. At under 300 bucks they are a bargain.

CZ has also produced some "new" CZ-40Bs in the past year or two -- with some with '05 date stamps.

The 40B is one of the best of the CZ line, and the 40P uses the same slide and a p-01 frame (but slightly modified).

I prefer the 40B, bu the 40P is a good gun. Any standard (full-size) CZ mag of the same calibre will work in the 40P.

(The 40B mags are slightly different, they have a thicker, angled base plate that won't work in other full-size CZs. Change out the baseplate, though, and its a standard full-size .40 mag.)

The 40P mags come with a spacer that lets them use a full-size mag, but "compact" mags that fit flush also work.
