Recently while I was home on leave from Iraq I purchased a Glock 22 (it's my first gun). I've been looking around at the different kinds of ammo out there and I'm just overwhelmed. I want something that's good for home defense and/or concealed carry. I've seen adds for the Extreme Shock AFR that seems like it would be a good bet, but I've never heard anyone ever mention it. Does anyone here know anything about it, or can point me towards some other good round? Also, who makes a good set of night sights for it? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this.

There are several good night site mfg's. Personally, I like MMC. However, the might be on the expensive side.

With regards to defense rounds. Personally, I like Winchester Ranger load, or Remington Golden Saber....~155 or ~180 are both good bullet weights.

I konw there is a ton of stuff out there. I hope this helps.

The Extreme Shock stuff is nothing more than marketing hype........er BS.

Stick with premium defense loads from the usual manufacturers. The premium defense loads from Federal, Speer, Winchester and Remington are all good. Chances are you'll find one of them being carried by your local LE. Find the one that functions reliably in your pistol and go with it.
I tend to lean toward the 180 gr loads for the .40 as does most LE in AK.

There are several brands of nights sights to choose from Meprolight, Trijicon, MMC, XS and a couple of others I can't think of at the moment.

I have Mepros on mine and they seem to be brighter than others I've seen, but you could flip a quarter to choose which ones to buy and still have a quality set of sights no matter which ones you bought.

For factory PD loads, I like Speer Gold Dot and Remington Gold Sabre. These two have had the best performance in clay of the loads I've tested, which include Hydra-shok's, Black Talon/Ranger SXT, PMC Starfire and several others. I haven't tested the Xtreme-shock stuff yet, but for the price it had better be good.

My G22 came with factory installed Meprolights and I have been quite happy with them. Still bright after ten-plus years. I keep it loaded with 135 grain CorBon JHP's for reduced chance of over penetration as I live in an apartment. However, my spare mag is loaded with 155 grain Hydrashocks.

I use Rem GS 180 in my G22. I don't mind trying Extreme Shock if it's not too expensive. I think the prices for Remington Golden Saber is reasonable. I use their 9 and 45 as well in my USP.

I prefer 155-165gr. premium H.P.'s. Speer Gold Dots at the moment. Don't

even care to try the "extreme shock". I've never heard anything about them

except marketing hype. As for night sights, all those listed above are very

good. Personal preference had me install Heine slant pro straight eights on

my G22.

from the early 1990s likes Speer Gold Dot 165 gr. loads. They feed and function flawlessly, and they are quite poweful-- averaging 1132 fps for 469 ft-lb energy, which approaches the power of a .357 magnum revolver.

The gun never fails, and it's so simple to operate. No need to remember where any controls are when you're scared witless. Just point and shoot, like a revolver but with more capacity. That's especially helpful to a lefty like me.

Thank you all for the input. Looks like I'll have a few rounds to try out when I get back home. As far as the night sights go, is that something I should have someone else do, or could I do it w/o too much trouble?
