I think I have at long last found my ideal load:

LOAD
Lapua brass
CCI 400 short rifle primers
Hornady 55gr SP
H335 25.3gr

RIFLE
Tikka T3 Lite
22" factory standard free-floating barrel
1-8" twist
6.17 lb weight

Firing at 100m using sandbags on my Land Rover's bonnet (no hi-tech here!) I have had consistent 0.38" groups of 5 shots.

It is now time to ask Mr Fox what he thinks of the load!

I hope this helps anyone else out there with a similar setup.

My .233 load is similiar, 26 gr. H335 with a Hornady 50 gr. VMAX will give you a bit more in velocity and the VMAX is a better overall design. I have used it for years and have hit parrie dogs out to just over 500 yards with it. Give it a try.

Will do as soon as I am able to get hold of some V-Maxes - not always easy to come by over here in the UK!

I get them off ebay and it seems ok, i checked with firearms licencing and they said that is fine.

I am going out tomorrow to shoot some rounds i have loaded up today. .243 105 grain spitzers over 33. 34, 35, 36 grains of nobel rifle #1. i am not really bothered about the speed but i hope i can get one that shoots straight, then i will load tons of them up on my shiny new anniversary set up. It will be for roe and muntjac.

My firearms officers say no. Expanding ammunition has to be bought from a registered firearms dealer (RFD) and be entered on the licence, they say. Only non-expanding bullets (FMJs and so on) can be bought with no restrictions and through the post - crazy!!!

I shot my 105 gr spitzers into a keyhiole group at 100 yds. on 36 grains of nobel #1. Your twist rate is pretty fast i wonder if it would be better with heavier bullets, my ruger 77 mk2 has 1:9. yours if it is 1;8 is fast.

As the late Steve Erwin would say, "Crikey mate! Whadda crock!"

:D I don't understand the logic in that one, but then, I don't think logic is part of gun laws in general.

When the politicians muddle about with anything it all goes wrong. That is the case with that gem of logic. Primers, powder, cases and solid bullets can be bought with no restrictions / licence here in the UK. As soon as you try to buy expanding bullets or put the 4 components together you need a firearms licence. Explain the logic!

My guys say that as bullets are componants and not ammunition then they don't have to go on your certificate until you load them

Then i write them on myself.

I wish mine were the same. Both local gun shops will not sell expanding bullets for reloading unless you have the FAC with you and they both say they have to enter the number of bullets bought, as though they were factory manufactured rounds. Not though with FMJs.

Have you spoken to your firearms licensing people? I have found it cheaper in cost and petrol and mucking about time to buy them off the net or ebay, then in a week they turn up at my door. I think it is really sad that that i can buy and ship bullets from the states for less than i can go to the shops in the uk and buy them for!

You are not breaking the law, becuase the law says ammunition.:)

one of our american friends might even buy and ship some for you.:)

Where abouts are you? maybe i could help you out with this:)
