So tell me about the takedown. Just bought one(111 Mil Pro) on Gunbroker, that I haven't received yet. Saw some takedown complaints on other boards.
This is the newer DAO version.

Stan,
I called Taurus to get a schematic etc. so I could detail strip as I am a gunsmith. They told me that they would not as they want you to send the gun to them in Miami for such disassembly...kind of a pain; yurn around time, shipping, FFL and all.

i personally have knocked the pin that holds the extracter claw and the chamber indicator. i had a problem with residue getting in there, so i just wiped it down with a rag. what i did was put the slide in a padded c-clamp, just snug enough to hold the extracter. then, bracing the slide upside down on a block of wood, i tapped the pin from the inside out. i drilled a hole in the wood that the pin would just fall into, but friction held it in until i pulled it out with my hand. then i carefully loosened the c-clamp, and had all the parts together. i'm not sure if i'll ever do this again, as i've shot it since, and it cleaned up just fine. that's as far as i've been willing to go with it right now. if you try it, be very careful. the extractor spring is not that small, but the one for the chamber indicator is itty-bitty, so keep an eye on it. the firing pin block and its spring also came out, and it was a sinch to put back in

oh...another tip for field stripping it... i don't know about you all, but i've found it easier to take the slide off if after i have pulled out the take down pin, i pull the slide back, then pull fully on the trigger. that seems to release everything just fine that when i ease the slide foward, it keeps the trigger bar down so the machined notch in the slide doesn't catch. i've also found that if i pull the slide back at any time, and i don't want the gun to be 'cocked,' i just pull the trigger before i ease the slide foward, and that holds the sear down so it doesn't catch the firing pin.
