Perhaps they could throw on a 92fs type safety to satisfy the military's safety requirement and wamo a 21st century .45 auto for our GI's. Discuss amongst yourselves. :D

Dead issue at this point.

Big Army decided to keep the M9 for the time being.

USASOC dropped the new .45 program as well. This means a lot of units (read: anyone who can get away with it) are using a real grab bag of Beretta alternatives, both in 9mm and .45 ACP. Haven't heard about anyone from within USASOC going downrange with XD 45s or XD 9s, but would not surprise me if it had happened or will happen soon -- lots of HKs and some Glocks already getting workouts.

it lacks a hammer and I don't like it (for military service) as its not an American gun.

I'd rather have the best gun than an American gun, if the two are not the same thing (not saying the XD is the "best" necessarily). I figure I'm already doing my part for flag waving and such by wearing the uniform, getting stuck with an inferior weapon because it was invented hereabouts just seems over the top. :)

and why couldn't an American company produce a gun capable of serving in our military? I'll bet Colt or Smith & Wesson could tool up a great design that would work fantastically. In fact, a S&W autoloader would do very well if there were a new pistol trial. They've been serving in LEO capacity for many years. I believe there are still some countries using the S&W Model 39 in a police capacity.

The range I frequent has seen XD's break on a semi regular basis. I know from these boards that this isn't typical but to see that many catastrophic malfs just isn't good :scrutiny:

10-Ring, could you be more specific about what broke on the XD's. The only reports I am hearing are trigger breakege.

Yes and all Glocks explode...

But seriously, given that all handguns ever made all seem to be complete pieces of junk, I just don't see the XD being picked up by the US Military. I mean yeah it would work, I just don't see it ever catching on.

One thing that really kills the XD for use as a service weapon is there's not really a lot of support in the way of armorers. I can find Sig and Glock armorers within 100 miles of me.
