Can anyone recommend a good FFl for transfers in the Phoenix metropolitan area?

"Good" meaning cost effective and dependable.

I live in Phoenix and would recommend Bear Arms in Scottsdale. They are located by Scottsdale Rd. and Shea Blvd. Mike

Bear Arms is run by good people. The guy... Darren or Darrel is great to work with and he has always been nothing but helpful to me. The other folks have been very nice as well and they have a good collection.

If you are a little more by Tempe, the folks at Arizona Firearms and Collectibles are great as well. Mike and Larry are cool cats too.

The thing is... I'm not sure what their FFL fee is. These guys, however, are guys that I would trust not to fondle a piece if it came in. I'm not saying the other local folks are not reputable, but these folks have treated me well every time I've been in their shop. This, plus the trust makes any transfer fee they charge worth it.

I'm thinking it's in the ballpark of $25 and if it is that, the price might even be negotiable if you are on a budget.

You can try auction arms or gunbroker,use the ffl locator link and you should get back at lease 15-20 links.I think the price varies from 20 to 35 bucks.

Good luck, most places in Tucson have jumped to $50 and/or 20% of the price of the firearm... luckily, I know one person who does it for $20. If I didn't, CDNN would have never received a purchase from me. :)

just enter in your state and you'll see the list...the ZIP code thing only works for your specific ZIP so you will not get many(if any) matches. The guys at Shooting Star in Tempe are pretty easy going and always more than happy to do a transfer, I think they charge $20 or $25 per gun.

As a guy that has done transfers all over the Phoenix area, I think I can weigh in on this one....

Bear Arms in Scottsdale is top notch. They charge $25 and they will not even open the shipping box until you arrive, so you know your gun will not be fondled.

Clyde, the owner of Pistol Parlour will no longer do transfers. He's had hassles doing them before and will now only order guns and sell what he has in stock. He has killer prices on used and consignment handguns.

Shooting Star in Tempe will no longer get much of my business. Bill, the owner, is a stand up guy and I would buy from him in a heartbeat. However, he is always busy with his main business, which isn't guns. The gun store is just a side business for him. Unfortunately, you will rarely deal with him directly, and he has a couple of a holes that don't know a whole lot working for him. Also, they used to charge only $15 for transfers. Now they charge $25 or $30, and they require things that aren't even required by law. You will see Bill at gunshows, so it is safe to do business with them then.

If Arizona Firearms and Collectables has changed ownership from what it was in 1999, they are probably a safe bet as Krept said. But if it is the same greasy owner as before, steer clear.

AJI Sporting Goods in Apache Junction only charges $20. They provided me with the easiest, straight forward, and hassle-free transfer of ANY I have ever done. Jeff, the owner, is an honest businessman. However, just don't expect a smile and friendly banter to go along with the transaction. A little gruff and lacking in people skills, but my recommendation for a pain free transfer.

I just called them about a transfer from CDNN as I have moved up to Gilbert, and he asked what I was looking at, the Beretta Storm PX4 pistol I said. He said he could not transfer that one because they have one in the case, for $100 more. :scrutiny:

I bought my Sig P245 from them (Bear Arms) just a few months ago. I had seen it at the gun show the weekend before, and just couldn't say no to it when I found out they still had it. Salesman knocked off the $25 they had told me they could come down at the gun show without any hassel. They even gave (to keep) a very large stuffed bear to my daughter (15 months old at the time) while I was filling out the 4473. It was either that or use the bear for a shotgun target. He figured she'd get more enjoyment out it (and she certainly has).

Funny because the last time I was in there, I was handling a TZ99 (Sig clone) which I was pretty seriously thinking about buying. I was inspecting the gun which was new, looking down the sights, pointing it towards the back of the store(where they keep the compact handguns), etc. This was mid-day and there were absolutely no other customers in the store, and this sales guy starts rushing me...reaching out for the pistol very abruptly as if to say "ok, time up". I looked at him for a couple seconds, looked around the store which was still empty, raised my eyebrows and handed him the gun. Ticked me off, so I politely walked out without saying anything, much less buying any ammo which I had intended to do regardless of buying the pistol.

Haven't been there since. This was close to a year ago.
